Must you book with AMEX to get the AMEX benefits or must you just pay with your AMEX when you arrive?

In other words, be prepared to pay double for the room price in order to get the upgrade etc...

Just like the airline deal, you pay significantly higher prices for the ticket in order to save something 10-20% for the "companion" ticket.....

You might consider looking into this thread http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=718448 You might be able to find out that sometimes it is actually much cheaper or about the same plus free amenities. You do have to be an educated consumer and I do recommend to book it elsewhere if you would think the other offer is better then FHR

I just used the domestic companion ticket service through PTS. I got 2 RT direct flights to ORD for $400....not too bad of a deal I don't guess. Had I booked through AA directly, I would have paid 60 bucks more for each ticket....so there's a little savings.

FWIW, the PTS travel agent I had seemed to have the personality of a brick. Oh well, what choice do you have if you want the benefits. At least the flight #s he pulled up happened to be the exact ones I wanted.

I apologize, but I don't think your post is relevant to this thread topic. I think it would be more appropriate if you would post it here:

Agree with everyone here when you need to be informed when booking, but FHR rates are sometimes butt-loads cheaper than anywhere else. Just booked a trip to Las Vegas for next month, and the FHR rate was nearly $100 lower per night than through the hotel, Expedia, etc. Not a bad deal at all :p
