Anyone have experience with a good B & B or moderately priced Boston hotel? Thanks in advance. kanopemainer Oct 5, 07, 7:38 am A bit late, but maybe help in the future, also for others: John Jeffries House 14 David G Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02114, at Charles & Cambridge Streets (367 1866/fax 742 0313) Charles T. Rates rooms $80-$110; suites $120-$160. Credit AmEx, DC, Disc, MC, $TC, V. Hotel services Air-conditioning. Continental breakfast. Disabled: access; rooms for disabled. Fax. Garden. No-smoking rooms. Parking. Room services Dataport jack. Hairdryer. Kitchenette. Iron/ironing board (on request). Radio. Refrigerator. This turn-of-the-century hotel should probably, by definition, appear in the bed and breakfast section: a continental buffet is served each morning in the common room on the ground floor. But John Jeffries House really feels more like a proper hotel - and a lovely little one at that. The quality of both the décor and the amenities well exceeds the price. And each of its 46 rooms and suites is furnished with a small kitchenette. Other hotel amenities are basic, however - there's no restaurant, for example, but the shops and restaurants of Charles Street are right on the doorstep. Dollar for dollar, this is one of the best deals in town. The Hotel Marlowe (25 Edwin H. Land Boulevard, 800-825-7140) is on the Cambridge side of the Charles River, a short hop from downtown Boston. It has 236 spacious rooms, zany furnishings and free evening wine hours. Rates start at $129. The Newbury Guest House (261 Newbury Street, 617-437-7666), a brownstone in the heart of Back Bay, has 32 Victorian-style rooms, priced at $109 to $175 through the end of December. Breakfast is included. doylna Oct 10, 07, 9:09 pm John Jeffries House is about 30 steps from the Charles MG T Stop, which is as close to Beacon Hill as you can get for a T stop. If it's that cheap, I'd definitely look into it, as you can get from the airport to the T stop via the Silver to Red line in about 30 - 45 minutes for $2. |
