Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - CNS-AKL Airfare

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing some airfare CNS-AKL on 1/1 or 1/4 and noticed that the one way airfare is over $450 in Y!

Is this normal for such a route at this time of the year? I have no baseline to compare it to. I guess I'll pay it if I have to, but it seems very high. Also, it appears that only one airline, NZ, flies this route direct. Is this true or am I missing some LCC (I checked Virgin Blue and Jetstar)?

Pacific Blue serves AU-NZ route... and sometimes they have good sales.
Also check out Qantas.

They may not have direct flights, but you may end up saving some money.

On www.airnz.com.au I see A$515.97 (incl taxes, which are fairly high ex-Australia) for travel Jan 2 or Jan 4.

Seems about right. First week of January is a busy travel period, and far less options for CNS-AKL than for example SYD-AKL.

www.qantas.com.au comes up with A$561 (tax incl) via BNE (and just a few $ more via SYD).

www.virginblue.com.au is A$549 (tax incl) via BNE.

There are no other options for CNS-AKL. If allow BNE-AKL then further options are Emirates and Royal Brunei.

I doubt you'd save much $ by booking separate tickets CNS-BNE/SYD and BNE/SYD-AKL.

Looks like we're stuck with the high price. Thanks Kiwi Flyer for looking up all of those quotes. Seems like NZ is the best option considering it is direct and should earn miles at that high fare.

Yes it is a flexi saver fare and thus mileage earning (some fare classes are not). Note that on some programs this is treated as discount economy (eg earning 70% miles).

It looks like you do not have Star Alliance miles, is that correct? Maybe you could trade with someone on Coupon Connection. It is 20,000 miles from AKL-CNS non-stop on Air New Zealand.
