Hertz - Ford Mustang "or similar"

I have reserved Mustang in CLE (Gold Member - Almost to 5* status), but they don't have it reservable as part of the "Fun Collection". (They do offer the Shelby and convertible, but, unfortunately, both are sold out for the weekend). My question is: Has anyone else reserved a "Mustang or similar" in the past and gotten a different car? If so, which one?

The only other car you might get is a Monte Carlo. Thats the only other 2 door D class car I can think of.

Twice in the last year I reserved "Ford Mustang or similar". The first time, I left it to chance, assuming I'd probably get one. I got a Toyota Solara convertible instead.

The second time, I even called ahead and asked the location (Orlando) what the chances were of my actually getting a Mustang this time. They said, no problem, we'll make a note for you. When I actually arrived, none were "available", despite there being a few scattered here and there in the Gold spots. I once again settled for a Solara convertible.

I should have written Hertz about the second incident, but in the end it just takes too much effort for very little likely reward. In the end, I got a reasonable convertible at the price I reserved the car for, and it was a nice day, so I can't complain too terribly much.

But the Mustang would have been funner :p

ps I'm basic #1 Gold with maybe only 10 rents this year.

Well I actually booked a corvette convertible in orlando for next month, so let's see what they'll put me into if they don't have one... (crossing fingers)

I find the Solara a much better convertible than the Mustang.

The base rental Mustangs v6 is slow, 0-60 in 9 seconds, takes more gas, is a whole lot louder for no extra performance or comfort. How they manage to squeeze only 210hp out of a FOUR LITER v6 is just amazing.

No bluetooth, no steering wheel controls in the base model, single disc CD player with no MP3 support, no electronic stability control, and the roof is harder to latch. Not only that, it screams, I'm a tourist.

If you actually have 10 rentals you should be 5*. You'll get that status for next year if you're at 10 before this year is out, but after you have 10 you can call them and ask to be upgraded right away. :)
