As a #1 Gold member; why am I always waling past two dozen of the same cars to get to the one for me? It seems like the last three or four rentals, this is the case.....

It is really starting to upset me.

Emerald Isle is starting to look better and better.

That's better than my experience in Madrid..

First time: "We don't know, but it's the black Saab 9/3 and I think it's way back there." The next day, car turned out to be bad so I returned to get another car..

Second time: "It's number 553 of 600 and it's a blue Renault Laguna." It was parked ten spots away from "553"

Sometimes when the car is not parked in the Gold canopy, I've recieved an "apology" note and "free upgrade" from Hertz.

Less than 50% of the time, however...

So far I've been batting 10/10 for car in gold #1 Canopy. Maybe they wanted to give your legs a good work out :D

Maybe it's because we're small but we try to pull gold cars to the curb for the guest.

Probably because those cars are for President's Circle and Five Star renters?

Personally, I don't mind walking since I get to see what else they have on the lot and it gives me time to come up with a really good excuse as to why the rental car I haven't walked up to yet is not a good fit for me this week and I need to go get a different one from the Gold Booth.

Hah! 2 rentals ago in SFO as a 5* renter my car wasn't even in a Gold Spot. The space assigned on the board was beyond all the gold spaces there.

It's a pain in the a** to walk all the way back t the Gold booth and wait in line to switch cars, even when I find the dreaded Taurus in my spot. I swear, they put the Tauri all the way out there just so you'll think twice before walking back to complain.

Several times in LAX I have found the car to be only three or four cars away from the Gold Booth.

But that being said they have always been prestige rentals! :)

Funny, I've never had that happen. In SFO Friday it was in a president's circle spot in the second row. Maybe it's alphabetical or something, but I've always been up front for some reason, though I'm usually arriving very late at night.

I usually touch down in SFO at about 9am on Monday. Only once have I had a great spot. The first rental after I made 5* my car was in a Presidents Circle spot. I was so used to walking to the left from the board that I automatically did until I realized the low numbers weren't over there! Every time since then though....

My last 2 Chicago rentals were just the opposite

In ORD, walked up to the board (a _huge_ operation, numbers into the upper hundreds, maybe even 1000 (can't remember)), and found my name in #1!

This was even before I made 5*

The other was reserving a Focus and finding a Mustang CVT waiting.

The Chi-town gods have been smiling on me...

Several years ago now, but I once Pricelined (or maybe Hotwired, although that sounds vaguely illegal ;)) an econ at LGA and got Hertz (for like $30/day when they were going for $75/day everywhere). The car they gave me was a Mustang that was right out front in the PC area, spot 1 roughly, just right out the door. That was pretty funny, although I'm guessing perhaps someone reserved that for the night before and never picked it up. My res was for around 5:30 or 6am.
