NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2007 -- JetBlue Airways today announced the appointment of Chief Operating Officer Russ Chew to President. With his added responsibilities as President, Mr. Chew will work directly with Chief Executive Officer Dave Barger to execute the Company's vision and strategic plan.
``Since Russ joined our team, we have established the right foundation for continuous improvement,'' said Mr. Barger. ``Russ will help lead our efforts to develop JetBlue's long-term business strategy that values our culture and takes full advantage of our financial opportunities.''

``I am honored to take on this additional responsibility,'' Mr. Chew said. ``JetBlue has incredible talent and vision, and bringing that vision to life for our customers and crewmembers, especially in today's competitive and operational environment, will depend on our ability to set the right course for our future. JetBlue crewmembers have demonstrated their unique ability to tackle challenges, especially when given the right tools and resources, while staying true to our company's values. I am committed to serving our crewmembers so they may continue to serve our customers with signature JetBlue service.''

Barger is still CEO, right? Chew is simply one level below Barger?

From what I gather reading the press release, that would be the case.

What a mistake ...here's hoping he doesn't do for JetBlue what he did for AA ... and the FAA.

Barger is still CEO just not the president.

Chew has done pretty well so far, i mean you can't really make us much worse than we where in February.

Funny (but serious) that you say that. A good friend of mine works for the FAA and knew Russ very well. He told me, just yesterday coincidentally, that Russ has good intentions and huge ideas...but they are not realistic.

Russ has been at jetBlue since March, 6 months, and things in his area seem to be improving. I don't know about his history at AA, but hopefully things will go the right way for him and the company this time around. I did find it odd that he accepted a job at Hawaiian (I think that's the airline) and vey soon after quit before even starting! Who know, only time will tell...
