JetBlue TrueBlue - Stopover at JFK on award ticket?

I'd like to add a stop over at JFK on an award ticket. Not because I want to stay in NY, but because I fly to JFK weekly and have been delayed up to 4 hours, including being delayed 12 hours and missing an international connection. So any connections in NY I take in the future I want to get there the day before.

Is this allowed?

or if, like the OP speculated, there's a delay on the first leg of the trip and he misses his connection... but you can't bank on that.

Thanks. That would be something nice to add especially with all the delays at JFK and award itins sometimes only showing an hour long connection to international flights.... oh well.
