Can anyone provide an opinion on the Siam City Hotel? How does it compare with other Bangkok hotels like the Starwoods, Amaris, etc?

Stayed one week (December '03) in one of their upgraded deluxe rooms that was junior suite and very nicely appointed bedroom and bathroom. No complaints. Excellent Italian restaurant. Executive lounge quite small, friendly lounge staff, standard continental breakfast buffet therein. Close to skytrain but nothing easy walking distance in terms of shopping if that's important. At that time one quirk was that hotel had not yet converted to magnetic reading on room keys yet, still old fashioned large brass keys.

Trying to be 4 star hotel, IMHO.

(Trivia -- hotel is owned by Kamala Sukosol, well known entertainer years ago and daughter of a major automotive tycoon. Hotel sits on property once the site of US military bachelor officer hotel, the Chao Phya Hotel, sold in mid 1970s and turned into New Amarin Hotel. When Kamala bought the property she demolished the building and put up present structure.)

Decent hotel, stayed there two months ago. Nothing special, my opinion is that it is a higher cost for what you get compared to other hotels in BKK. But no major complaints. Depends what area you want to be in, what you want to do etc...
