South - Any good deals/hotels San Antonio Riverwalk?

Title says it all. We're probably going to make an announcement later on the Community Forum if anyone wants to meet us for our "pub crawl" night in October. We want to be on/near the Riverwalk so we don't have to drive after strolling, wining, and dining. Any recommendations for pubs/bars/restaurants will be appreciated too.

Last Friday night, while staying at the Hilton Palacio del Rio (NOT a "deal" at $229/night+tax!), we walked into Durty Nelly's on the Riverwalk level of the hotel. It was a bit too smoky for us, and there was no place to sit ... but seemed like a really raucous, entertaining, Irish pub type place.

The La Quinta is clean and in pretty good repair, with friendly service. You get free parking as well. It is about 2 blocks from the south end of the Riverwalk and definitely walkable.

I went in August and stayed at the Drury Inn, theres actually 2 there now....you may want to check it out, they have free happy hour each night and free breakfast in the morning

Thanks, folks. Plans have expanded now to a zoo trip in the morning to check out the San Antonio Zoo's large collection of birds. Afterward, we'll be doing a Sunday brunch with a minimum of 5 people. Any brunch recommends at the Riverwalk?

Also if anyone thinks they would like to attend, PM me so I can keep you in the loop when we work out dates and times and places. Topics of discussion will likely be science fiction, transhumanism, life extension. Any birders are welcome, but you and I may be muttering amongst ourselves while the other guys plan our glorious future. :-)
