Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - When will Tiger Airways be up and running for domestic Australian flights?

When looking into cheap flights to Tasmania in December I found the Tiger Airways website and their prices are pretty good (about $60 for a one-way Melbourne-Launceston), but all their Australian flights state "Subject to government approval", so I take it that they haven't received the official permits yet. Any idea on when that might happen? Before December?

Tiger Airways Australia will start operations in the later half of 2007 with a fleet of brand new Airbus A320 aircraft. Based out of Terminal Four at Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine, Melbourne, Victoria, the airline will offer consistently low fares for travel within Australia. The airline expects to fly more than 2 million passengers within the first year of operations.

Yup. From information i got from their website (http://www.tigerairways.com/about/company-overview.php), very likely they will operate before Dec this year.

Wonder why they don't service SYD?

Already sewn up by QF and DJ and probably trouble getting gate access as SYD is already nearing capacity

See OOL services from /to MEL start 23rd November 2007.
