Hertz - Strange Neverlost Problem

I live in the DC area (so I know the roads quite well) but today when I flew in I needed to rent a car. I was given a car with Neverlost so I thought what the heck--I'll use it and see which way it tells me to go. I needed to go from DCA-Sterling VA. I usually take I66 to the Toll Rd to Rt. 7. Well Neverlost did everything in its power to keep me off I-66. It kept telling me to make U-Turns as I was approaching 66. Then the real kicker is when I got on 66 it produced an error message when it tried to recalculate the route. I selected shortest time and I didnt see an option to avoid highways. Anyone else have a similar problem??

Funny stuff! At least you knew the area, though...
I've never really had a problem on the NL rentals I've had, and certainly nothing like that. Do you still have the car? If so, play dumb and complain on returning the car that you got very lost, etc. See if they'll knock some $ off your rate. ;)

I don't know if Neverlost does this, but I know that other navis have the option to "avoid highways" - sounds like this is what was happening. I noticed this with a borrowed GPS, driving from NYC up to Vermont - kept trying to get me off of 91 onto random country roads in CT.

Yeah, I still have the car. I didn't drive it today, I'll experiment a little more tomorrow.
I did check to see if their was an "avoid highways" option and I didnt see one. I'll check that again too.
I'm really shocked even if there was an option to avoid highways it would refuse to re-calculate the route if you "accidently" get on a highway.
