My wife and I are goingto Bali at the end oft he month and staying at the Conrad. In the past we have been to Phuket & Fiji and enjoy renting a car or scooter and seeing the local sites. Any recommendations on how to get around Bali and see the local scenary, not crazy about taxis as I tend to get car sick.

Also and snorkeling to be done close to Nusa Dua?

We are there fopr 5 days, what "must" we do?

Thank you

You're screwed then. Bali's interior is hilly, so roads are windy and twisty, and the only way to get around is to hire a car and get somebody to drive you -- you really don't want to drive yourself.

Also and snorkeling to be done close to Nusa Dua?

Nusa Lembongan, an island off the coast not too far from Nusa Dua, is quite popular.

I concur, you will need to hire a care. Fortunately, car hire with a driver is very, very inexpensive--and easy to find such cars. In fact, they will find you. DO NOT try to drive yourself. You will get hit with many "fines" from the local cops.

You can also take tourist mini buses between some of the bigger towns and sites. Not expensive and very friendly, you will meet some nice other tourists.

While I agree the interiors are hilly, I wouldnt describe the roads as "windy and twisty". Though I have been staying mainly on the south western coasts lately, I dont remember the roads to be particularly "windy and twisty" the 3-4 times I went up to the interiors.

Infact I thought the roads were quite straight going uphill, not even half as "windy and twisty" as the Hana Highway-Maui. I would reserve the term "windy and twisty" for the old road up Cameron Highlands (Malaysia).

One peculiarity I found about Bali is that in the semi-urbanised areas, the roads are extremely narrow. While I am quite happy driving in Phuket, I wouldnt dream of doing the same in Bali. Taxis are also quite expensive (for asian standard); and I agree hiring a car (with driver) for the day is the best option for moving around.
