Credit Card Programs - How long to get a credit score in the US?
As a relatively new US resident, how long on average would it take to actually establish a credit score? i.e go from unrated to having a score of some kind, whatever it is!
Other than a secured CC, anything else that can contribute positively to establishing a history?

When I got my first CC right after getting a SSN, my score (at least the one from myfico.com) started at 699 about a month after I got the card.

You get a score pretty quickly, I would think. A month sounds about right at the outside. I'm less sure about how long does it take to get a good score...
Thanks. The BofA guys were telling me 9-12 months. At least 9 to get CC unsecured. This is with good credit in two other countries which of course means diddly squat to them.
I'll have to pull my file and check my score.

If you have any history with Amex overseas, you can get an unsecured Amex using their Global Card Transfer at the link below. No US credit history required and they offered me any card upto the Platinum Card based on my 6-year Amex history in Singapore. I opted for the SPG card.

You will have a "score" between 30 and 60 days. What they mean is that your credit will not be able to support unsecured credit until you have about a year of history. Jewelry stores and car lots are usually exceptions to this.

Kinda depends. If the OP came to study in the US it is very easy to get the "student" cards without any previous credit history. From there it takes a year or two to get the Fico where it should be to get the more premier cards.
This seems very high, I started with much lower. I would think it takes 12 months to go above 710-715 and much longer (typically 3 years?) to go above 750-760.

1. The knowledge of bank people in the US is mostly/generally lousy.
2. Get the FICO score from EQUIFAX ... the other two companies give you this "new useless" score ... or ask the bank, however read point 1. first:rolleyes:
Good Luck!
