Hertz - Reserved weekly rate changed at counter during pickup?

I rented a Prius this morning from the LAX Marriott.

When I made the reservation the weekly rate was approximately $259 + tax and - a $50 PC collection code discount which made the grand total of the rental aproxmately $244.00

When I went to pick up the rental at the counter my approxmate total bill was listed as almost $290. The weekly rate on the car had gone up from $259 to about $304.

I had neglected to bring the print out of my reservation with the approx total's on it. The person at the counter got the manager and the manager started looking through the reservation info on his system. He said that he couldn't make since of it and that the system was saying that the weekly rate was $304.00. He was nice enough about the situation and went ahead and messed with the numbers until he could get it to about what I had thought the rental should cost. He actually got it down to $235.00 which I appreciated.

I came home and logged onto the web site and there it is my confirmation # for the rental with the Total Approximate Chanrges as 244.17 USD.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Any idea of what would cause the rate to change?

Thanks-
BW

On several occasions, BOS has changed my USAA rate to the bench rate for the day. I always bring my print out of the reservation, which has helped in getting things changed, but only after I escalate to the duty manager. The rank and file employees all tell me that I am not eligible for the USAA rate, despite seeing my USAA card and looking at my profile to see it selected as my default CDP.

I was using a AAA rate. But I often use USAA rate. I'll watch out for this from now on. I would hate to see my name on the board, jump in a car at an airport location and then realize that the price had changed.

On the estimated charges, the discount is listed as a separate line item - so for instance, weekly rate $304, discount 20%.

Also, the estimated charges total does not include the coupon - it will usually list "PC xxxxxx will be deducted at return"

My Hertz paperwork always reflects the undiscounted rate. My default CDP is AAA and when booking online, the quote reflects that CDP. It can be confusing at first, but that seems to be the way the Hertz reservation system works. Almost always, the final billing when I return the car is within pennies of the hertz.com final reserved "estimated" quote.

A few years back, I had a panic attack after driving off the lot and perusing my paperwork hours later. The AAA CDP was knocking 75% off the rate, but my paperwork indicated something like $49 per weekend day. With the AAA CDP, it was more like $12. Luckily, I had brought my paperwork and was ready to do battle upon return. The receipt that printed out upon return showed the $12 weekend rate. No battle needed.

Yes it was. The AAA discount was reflected and PC discount has already been removed, yet the estimated charge was more than the online rate quote.

I have had situations where the PC discount wasn't removed until I turned the car in but not in this case. This is the first time I have had the rate code jump in price.
