Okay, I just signed up for Hertz Gold Club. I have a boatload of rentals lined up for this week - does my Gold club status take affect immediately or do I need to have my number re-entered in the reservations? I wasn't sure how this worked and didn't see it addressed in all the stuff I just read through on the Hertz site.

I greatly appreciate your help!

It takes effect immediately, but if you booked these rentals before you signed up for Gold, call Hertz and ask them to include your #1 Club Gold number on each reservation.

Also, on your first reservation, you might have to physically sign some things. This was true years ago when I joined - I don't know if it still is or not. In any case, you'd head to the #1 Club Gold counter - in most places, a separate counter altogether from the "main" counter - and it should only take a couple of minutes.

The main thing is having your new #1 Club Gold number attached to each reservation. It doesn't automatically link on your name/address or anything like that.

Yes, they will capture your signature upon first rental. After that, all rentals will use credit card info stored in your profile. You can change this card (and store up to three if you like, I think) and not have to sign again, but you do have to sign the first time (excepting perhaps some large corporate billing systems).

As mentioned above, you'll have to call to have your Gold status added to any bookings you made before setting up the Gold profile. You definitely want to do this as apart from the Gold Counter/Canopy (depending upon location) service those rental credits will count towards 5*/PC status. Also if you want to earn Hertz points (aka ZE1 points) instead of miles for your rentals, you can have that choice added to those existing bookings and be placed in your profile, assuming you are not using a corporate CDP that is not allowed to earn ZE1 points.

Aaaahhh yes, the ZE1 points. These can be very valuable if you do standalone 1-day rentals or if you rent in NYC. ^ In most cases, the ZE1 points you earn on a rental will be more valuable than airline miles.

Two common exceptions you will see here are when Virgin or Southwest have good promotions running. Also, on extremely cheap weekend rentals where I'm not during a bonus-credit promo, I'll sometimes take Marriott points.

But do the math on ZE1 - if you use 'em right, they can be worth a dime a point or more.

You need to call or use the contact us to have them change all the reservations. In my case, they all got issued new numbers, and they canceled the old ones.

pinniped has the right idea about ZE1 points. I personally am collecting them more often over airline miles as they are worth more for the purpose I need them for -- car rental rewards!

Thanks for all the tips. I called and started the process of adding my Gold number to all my reservations. I only did half for now (I have 16 between now and November). The agent also said I can get retroactive credit for anything I rented this calendar year by calling the Awards number. I'm guessing that means they will count towards 5* and Presidents Club. Woo hoo!
