Will be taking my first ride on the Capitol Limited this weekend. Is the overhead compartment as big as on the regional service trains?
I will be running to union station from work, and don't think I'll be able to check the bag in time.

Jeff,
I've never actually measured things, but I'd say that the luggage rack in the Superliner is comparable to that of a regional train. Additionally there is a large luggage rack downstairs in the Superliner car, just in case your bag won't fit in the overhead.

Actually, I know that the Amfleet Regional cars are different than the Amfleet long distance cars, but based on my recent experience, the overhead luggage racks in the Superliners are (surprisingly) substantially smaller than the overhead luggage racks on the single-level Amfleet equipment. Specifically, the Superliners' are a lot shorter (distance from rack to ceiling).
I was traveling with a full-size Kelty backpack, and it had no problem fitting overhead on the Crescent and Cardinal (which use Amfleet equipment) with room to spare. But when I went to get on the Capitol Limited, which uses bi-level Superliner equipment, I had to use the downstairs luggage rack because I could not cram it the rack in above my seat. (There was plenty of room in the communal luggage rack, though, so that shouldn't be a problem.) Worked out fine, anyway, as when I went down to the lower-level restrooms to brush my teeth or do a paper-towel bath (hey, desperate times call for desperate measures), all of my toiletries were right there...
