Anyone ever have any luck getting an expired BOGO cert. reissued? In the years I've been Amb/RA, I have never gotten to use a cert and I recently found one while unpacking my office (Exp. 5/07). Any chance I could get them to take pitty on me?
we had the same problem as you; probably half a dozen expired. I emailed and asked for an extension and surprise ! did actually get a couple of them replaced. You won't know unless you ask and email is a pretty cheap way to find out .......

I agree with JKD. You have nothing to lose by contacting Ambassador Services and asking.
While I have never tried doing this with an expired BOGO (and would be more pessimistic than if the BOGO was about to expire), I did have a situation this month, where due to pressure of work, I was not able to go to Paris for a weekend stay at Le Grande, where I planned using a BOGO expiring in August.
I contacted Ambassador Services, explained the situation and I go a friendly mail saying they would post me out a new cert. I am not sure if this is done generally or by exception, or based on known travel patterns. Most of my travel is for work.
Good luck and let us know what feedback you receive.
I had to cancel a reservation for personal reasons (family bereavement) which meant that the voucher expired. Ambassador services were good enough to send me a replacement voucher. This shouldn't be regarded as a precedent, though.

Thanks - I assumed that was the case, but it's ambiguous enough that it seemed worth checking. I'd hate to get nailed for the second night.

Has anybody tried to actually use an expired BOGO cert at an IC hotel and was successful in doing so?

Nobody has reported such success. They expire at the end of the month indicated and that's that. You might have a case if the check-in Friday or Saturday is the last day of the month, and the free Saturday or Sunday is the first of the following month. But otherwise, no way. (There have been reports of the Ambassador service centre agreeing to exchange an old one with a new cert but there have also been reports of people being told definitely not.
Remember, certs used to be issued with a 6-month validity, now they are 9-months which is plenty of time. (And there is always CC if you provide a month or two grace, there's a good likelihood of swapping one for a longer validity.)

I just used a BOGO today, which expires March 2008 - no problem - itīs the end of the month.

When did it change to 9-month expiry?
As I went to sign up today on the ICH website and it still says 6 months, and there is no mention on the 5000point bonus for signing up.
Has anyone signed up recently?

The 5 000 points for signing up will be given to you in a separate voucher together with the complimentary night certificate. You can then redeem that voucher online, your account will be updated immediately.

My mom and I both successfully got new BOGO certificates after both of ours had expired. They were quite cordial about the whole thing really. ^

That's really good news. Mine is about to expire in May and I have no use for it before late summer.

That's encouraging. I had one expiring end of Feb 2008 and emailed in December asking for an extension by one month was was given a flatout 'no.'

So, what do you do? email or call them? Send the old expiring certificate? or do they send you a new one without asking for the old certificate?
I have one expiring end of May this year and would love one that expires later for an exchange!

Just an update. I emailed ambassador services desk and they just replied back by initially saying that they could not extend the validity of the certificate. :(
HOWEVER, :D, they said that they are happy to arrange a "replacement" with 9 month validity (did not ask for me to return May expiring one) in two to four weeks. ^
I presume that you cannot do this multiple times, but it's certainly worth a try if you have a certificate expiring in a month or two to receive an "extra" bonus BOGO. :D

I have a BOGO Cert with expiry date "May 2008" printed at the back of the cert. I'm going to check in IC Barclay on this coming Thursday, 8 May for 3 nights. I just want to make sure if I can still use it. What about if the front desk staff say something like "the cert is expried in May 2008, and today is already 8 May, so you cannot use it, I'm sorry, sir!", then what should I do?
Why couldn't ICHG print the cert with exact expiry date, instead of "expiry month"? It is very confusing!!:td:
Thanks for any advice in advance.;)

It expires 31 May.

No need to and not confusing at all.
A May expiry means it's valid until the last day of May. Same with your credit cards, only they use "valid till".
HTB.
Just to update this thread for info purposes for others. If you request a replacement/later renewal some agents will check history and say "we did this for you last year ........ so NO!". Implies of course that members might get one shot at least.
I just found this thread because I found an old BOGO voucher that expired in September. This is the answer I got from the Ambassador helpdesk asking for an extension ;-(
"Dear Mr. xxx,
Thank you for taking the time to contact the InterContinental Ambassador Service Center.
We would like to clarify that we are unable to extend the validity of a Complimentary Weekend Night Certificate, as it must be redeemed prior to the expiry date printed on the certificate.
The certificate used to be valid for nine months from the date of issue. The said validity was changed to twelve months when we re-launched our program on 02 February 2009.
As your certificate was issued in December 2008 which was prior to the re-launch, its expiry date is 30 September 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Nevertheless, rest assured that you will receive a new Complimentary Weekend Night Certificate which is included in your renewed Ambassador kit.
Thank you Mr. xxx, for giving us the opportunity to be of service to you. Should you need further assistance, please call us at +44 871 942 9099 / 1 888 211 7996 or send us an e-mail at ambassador@ihg.com."
I suppose they got more strict about that or has anybody had any luck recently?
