US Airways Dividend Miles - Quick question on domestic USAir Clubs

I searched for this, but couldn't find a recent answer, so here goes...

Is there an *official* policy on bringing outside food into the USAir Club Lounges? I belonged years ago, and they didn't care, but I've since read that they have been cracking down on this (I believe one poster claimed they made him throw out his Burger King meal!!!)

I'm thinking of re-joining, but an insane policy like that would make me reconsider.

(If you don't know the official policy, all experiences with this issue are welcome...)

Thanks for your help!

I was recently in the PHL B/C club and they do not allow "external" food in there. I asked the dragon why and she said that it has something to do with their liquor license.

If you bring food in, you are not supposed to eat it in the club...I have brought in a sammich before and been scolded; however, when I stated that I planned to eat it on the plane and not in the club (the truth), the dragon was fine with that.

OT, the woman at the front desk (Theresa?) really needs to chill out a little. She was snappy with customers like I have never seen before. Cripes.

I got an e-mail last week with a free day pass to the Hartford USAir Club. I'm flying out on Thursday, so I thought I would try it. I'll be there around lunchtime. Do they have any food in the club (other than peanuts or pretzels)? I noticed when I got here last night that there was a sign on the door that said "no outside food or drink".

If you are subtle you can get away with outside food (and I have seen people do this - especially around the back in the carrels at DCA). However, it is DEFINITELY against the rules and you will obtain an obligatory mostly polite chide from the staff if you try and are caught. This said the snack options at the clubs have certainly improved over the past year. It is not anything like a CO club or an international *A club, but an improvement is an improvement.

Unfortunately, however, the improvements are somewhat variable by club.
In general it is still mini-muffins, apples and yogurt at breakfast, but the later day snack options have changed alot. As an example, In PHL this includes chips and salsa as well as Synders peanut butter pretzel sandwiches in addition to the usual pretzels and spicy snack mix. In DCA there are plastic wrapped cheddar cheese blocks and crackers. Not the stuff that meals are made of, but can certainly help out in a pinch.

I had one of the dragons make me leave my sandwich at the front counter, while I ran in to grab a bathroom break... so I'd say its not allowed. I love the LH *A lounges.. I'd consider joining their club if it wasn't across the pond!

I know! Last month I spent a lovely 2 hours in the LH *A lounge in MUC (Part of a grand JFK-BOS-SNN-DUB-LHR-AMS-MUC-BCN-MAD-JFK tour). What a spread! So much booze! Great food! The place was spotless and the showers were super super modern.

Free computer access with several terminals. (OT: You haven't really experienced the "blue screen of death" until you've seen it in German! Scary!!)

Also - The BMI club in DUB is very pleasant as well with cool furniture, a reasonably good spread, and very very friendly matrons. The food is limited though. The *A lounge in AMS is kinda bleh and bare bones. I wasn't able to check out the *A lounge in LHR.

I may be in the minority here, and I could otherwise care less if folks are eating in the club. However, I do draw the line with fried fast food that has a strong smell.

If folks bring in club sandwiches, salads, fruit, and just about any other manner of comestible, it doesn't affect me in any way. But the thought of a family arriving en masse with bags of Burger King crap and spreading it all out with ketchup packets and fries on the floor is NOT why I joined the club.

Just my $00.02.

Personally, I bought a US Airways Club membership a few months ago. To tell you the truth, I find it a waste of money and useless for domestic travel... especially in LAS... where the club is located outside of security.

I'm in the Hartford club right now. I got an e-mail for a free visit, so I stopped in. Only food is peanuts and pretzels. The bar is closed but the desk attendent can get soft drinks. I'm thinking who would pay $300 for this? I thought at least they would have some finger food. I've been to the Northwest Club at MSP, much nicer! Free food & alcohol!

Somebody in the UA forum posted this link to a WSJ article. While none of the lounges reviewed were US Clubs, I think it gives a fairly good description of what you get in what lounges for your money.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118843392046712939.html?mod=hps_us_my_topics

I did not need a password to access the article, but YMMV.

The reason why I drop $300 (now increased to $315 for Golds) on annual lounge membership is to give me a quiet, relatively comfortable place to work away from the unwashed masses - primarily at LAX and PHL. It's been very valuable during those times when I've had to wait out excruciating delays in PHL!
