I just spent the past three hours working on my computer because of .Net. The infamous .Net SP1.1 hotfix failure; I finally tackled it. It wasn't pretty. I had to uninstall .Net 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 AND 3.0. I then had to go into the registry and lop off the two 'hives (is that the correct term?)' for .Net. I THEN had to manually download .Net 1.0, .Net 1.1, Service Pack 1 for .Net 1.1 AND THE HOTFIX for .Net 1.1SP1. Source for all this info? A FRIGGIN MS EMPLOYEE'S BLOG! Thank gawd it was there but this is ABSOLUTELY UNCONSCIONABLE! I can't believe I have to work this hard to fix this company's effing screwups.
In the "from the ridiculous to the just plain effing stupid dept.", a few days ago I was building a machine for someone and was installing XP. WGA WAS DOWN!!!!! Microsoft imposes this idiocy and then takes WGA down and has NO BACKUP???? Uh, glad I wasn't installing Vista where WGA actually KNOCKS THINGS OUT IF IT CAN'T AUTHENTICATE YOU! What happens if god forbid the Activation servers go down!? Boy THERE'S a fun one... XP doesn't always give you an activation grace period. Sometimes when you install it's "You must activate to continue". Click "later" and go back to login. Urgh. Talk about necessary evils.
