I, like most people, enjoy a good latte or regular cup of coffee from time to time. As such, I've explored coffee shops from Houston to Austin to Dallas and I'm interested to hear other's experiences.

What are your favorite (non-chain) coffee shops around Texas?

The top on my list in Austin is Clementine's (http://clementinecoffeebar.com/) off of Manor road. It's an eclectic little place with great coffee and awesome baristas. They also serve small lunch and breakfast items as well as beer and wine.

In Houston I've slowly been becoming a fan of The Coffee Groundz (http://www.thecoffeegroundz.com/) (terrible name). Great coffees and teas with plenty of outlets for your laptop.

So, what's on your list?

White Rock Coffee, on Loop 12/NW Hwy, 1/2 mile east of Audelia. Fair trade and they roast their own daily. Great pastries too.

Also Gatchet gets good marks here, but I have not been myself.

Just for the coffee lover, this year's State Fair of Texas will feature Deep Fried Lattes (http://www.cnn.com/2007/LIVING/wayoflife/08/27/big.tex.food.ap/index.html?section=cnn_latest).

That just sounds gross, along with the fried candy bars and other things they figured out how to fry at the State Fairs. It is fun to go to the Fair to people watch though. Amazing how many people will eat fried up anything.
