Newsstand - Smoke forces airplane to land in Indy

The plane landed in Indianapolis just after 3 p.m., minutes after the potential problem was noticed. Susan Sullivan, media relations manager for the Indianapolis Airport Authority, said the action was a precautionary measure and no passengers were injured.
"It's not uncommon for a pilot experiencing mechanical difficulty to err on the side of caution and to land," she said."

This was really true back when DL had the 727's - I was on three flights in five years with smoke in the cockpit. Usually was related to fried circuit breakers....
