So I'm going to have a certificate of eligibility for a new working status within the next week or so, but I don't want to wait another month for the Immigration Bureau to plod around with my change of status application.

I'm thinking of making a visa run to Seoul. Has anyone around here done this before? Do they give people trouble for traveling to Korea just to get a Japanese visa? All the information I've heard about this is second or third-hand, so I'm interested in seeing if any FTers have actually done this successfully...

I haven't done anything but visa processing times here in Osaka are quite small. Usually 1-2 weeks for a renewal. I know someone that claimed to have gotten a same-day renewal.

I wouldn't bother with a visa run because there's no guarantee the embassy in Seoul will process it within a day or two, and I've heard they don't care if you start working with the change of status stamp in your passport. However, if your current status expires soon, having a change of status stamp in your passport doesn't change the expiration of your original status (so if your landing permission expires next week you have to have the change of status processed by next week).
