The last time I flew this Air India flight was in 2006 in economy.
Flight was pretty full.
In terms of service didn't expect and didn't receive much... flight attendants passed out the welcome drinks (small carton of OJ I think).. Dinner served (quite efficiently actually).. and if I recall correctly - was quite good (the Indian meal)..
In terms of entertainment, the A310 (I think) that they were running then had one of those cabin screens (so no choice)...choice of audio channels also pretty limited..
Think the main consideration would be the delays (which AI is notorious for)..although both the HKG-DEL and DEL-HKG were reasonably on time then..
It's 4:30-5:30 hours, so try to get lost in a book or get some nap time...probably not much else...
Only reason I took it is the timing - gets to DEL at a good time, and leaves at a decent time as well. If CX flew close to those times (instead of 2am/7am)...well, needless to say but you'd probably have AI all to yourself...
I could be wrong, but don't think AI is that much cheaper than CX?

In short - don't expect much..and should be ok...

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Air India is way cheaper than Cathay, between 15 and 25% depending on the class, but the real bargain in coach is Malaysian with a stop in KUL.

There must also be a couple of new low-cost if you can bear them for 4 1/2 hours.

There are no international low-cost flights from Delhi. You could theoretically fly something like DEL-BLR-BKK-HKG on LCCs, but it would take forever and probably cost more.

Old airplane and so-so service. Don't expect to much. I always go via BKK on TG. Similar flight times and much better service. They also have a much cheaper fare in Biz. If you want a A to B flight then AI should be ok, but if you want service and backup (incase delays happen) then go for any other airline.
