Ill be down in Feb (now it looks like over a week). I was thinking about going to Wellington. Worth it? I read the sticky. How does it compare to Sydney for example?
Any place there to scuba?
Any interesting day tours or overnight?
Any secluded places to relax?
Or should I just stay in Auckland?

Also, just wondering if there is a way to get to Antartica..affordale.

I have some of your answers ... first, don't expect to stay (and enjoy) AKL for entire week. At a minimum, drive to Waitomo/Roturua area for a couple of days or north to the Bay of Islands or go to the vineyards but AKL itself will only last you a couple of days.

I enjoyed Wellington but its smaller than Sydney IMO - it's good for a couple of days, take a ferry ride to the South Island (I was there in the winter, jswong and others can share more of summer activities in the area).

If you are very interested in antartica, that'd be via CHC (Christchurch) the access point to Antartica. There is a great museum about Antartica right outside the airport. Very interesting. I think this is another one elsewhere in NZ, but it's not as good and I'm not sure where it's located.

Not many places near Wellington to scuba dive, but a ferry ride away on the South Island you can dive on the wreck of the Mikhail Lermontov cruise liner

Not exactly a reef (at least not a natural one), but the Rainbow Warrior wreck at the Bay of Islands is pretty neat.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8800: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.8295/1704; en; U; ssr))

Ill have to check that out. I don't have my wreck certification. For a week is flying to wellington for 4 days then akl for 3 good? The first day is probably going to be all connections (syd-akl-wellington)

This site may give you some suggestions for NZ diving:
http://www.firstlighttravel.com/dive.html

They arrange both self-drive and group tours.

There's plenty of good diving around the Poor Knight Islands (near AKL). Highly recommended :)

Ill be down in Feb ... any place there to scuba? ... Any interesting day tours or overnight? ... Any secluded places to relax? ... wondering if there is a way to get to Antartica...Hmmm, February in New Zealand, with what appears to be a preference for things outdoors or relaxing.

My recommendation would be to get out of AKL asap and head either North for the Bay of Islands - Vunder31 mentions diving the Rainbow Warrior and splatz the Poor Knights - or South for the Top of the South Island and trip around the Marlborough Sounds / Abel Tasman - Kiwi Flyer mentions diving the Mikhail Lermontov. Stay in one of those places for as much of your week as you can, and in either you will find no shortage of day trips if you're not diving too. (And don't think you'll be diving for coral and pretty little fishes in NZ, instead it'll be cool waters, man-made reefs, and fish for eating.)

I was thinking about going to Wellington...Or should I just stay in Auckland? ...

If your first post said "... any place there to coffee? ... Any interesting traffic? ... Any rowdy places to party? ... wondering why I came here in the first place ..." then AKL or WLG would be good choices ;)
