Be interesting to see how much chaos this causes at already over crowded Airport Check-in desks.

How long will it be before they charge to use the loo?

I had to make a day trip DUB --> LHR --> DUB last month. I priced Ryanair, but after each and every nigging fee was added to the fare (no baggage, just trying to buy the ticket and fly the route), I realized could fly BMI and get UA miles for about $10 more, with a straightforward fare.

My prediction for RyanAir anno December 2007:

Applicable fee for use of on-board breathable atmosphere, proportional to lung capacity and flight duration. Proof-of-lung-capacity required upon check-in in form of a physicians note dated less than 3h before departure. Absent a valid physicians note, RyanAir will provide access to a lung capacity testing facility against a small fee, equivalent to the GDP of Sweden.

Just swipe your credit card at the door and only two sheets of paper each.

Charging people to check in at the airport is just bizarre. It will almost certainly force people to determine the true cost of their fares and maybe fly elsewhere.

As for paying for baggage per se it may lead to an interesting legal complication where you have paid for a specific service, i.e. carriage of baggage and if it is not fulfilled there may be financial consequences for failing to provide a specific service. Can only hope so.

Charging people to check in at the airport is utterly absurd. It's as absurd as charging people to buy tickets on the phone.

Given that check-in can be done on the Web, that some people already do it on the Web, that they want to encourage more people to do it on the Web, and that people who'll pay this fee will have made a decision (for whatever reason, perhaps including the Web site's ability to handle an unusual situation) not to do it on the Web, why is this all that different?

(Not saying I like it, just suggesting an analogy to something we first objected to but have since generally come to terms with.)

Quite common for theatre bookings

I would say though that it's another device for Ryanair to avoid showing the true cost of a flight as all they legally have to do is show the minimum price - ie a flight with online checkin rather than the £9 extra per passenger per flight that most people will have because they have checked luggage and use a CC

The EU parlament has put a stop to the nonsence of advertising cheap flights but wait till you add the taxes and fees.... At the end of the year all airlines adverztising in the EU will have to advertise prices including taxes and fees!!!

But as I pointed out all Ryanair has to do is show the cheapest price - ie excluding CC fees, baggage fees, check-in fees as these are "optional".

Then again there is Ryanair's track record in "helpfully" adding things to the bill and making it difficult - unless you look VERY carefully - to remove them
