I am a Dimond member and I changed my preferance for the Hilton Garden because my kid will be with me and I thought it would be better to have a Suite Upgrade and breakfest instead of points.
I have 2 queens reserved so I called to see if that would stop the upgrade and the hotel told me "We don't do upgrades because we are a franhisee and we don't have to follow the Honors program" :td: :td:
Guess I am going to take my 50 stays a year somewhere else

What's a Dimond member? I guess, Hilton created a new level after all. :D Spell check anyone?
A) You aren't "guaranteed" an upgrade. Key words are, "subject to availability upon check-in".
B) Instead of calling the Diamond Desk to alert them of ONE ill informed property, you're going to drop the HHonors program all together? Sounds just as fishy as the property not granting upgrades upon availability.
Based on what you state, this sounds like an employee who doesn't know the program or a property not following the program. Is it possible, you were told they don't upgrade in advance? I would love to hear the other side of the telephone conversation.
I'm sure this thread will be a hot topic for the next couple days.

the Hotel said if we have it the day you check in you WILL pay for it

nj_flyer,
If someone from the Diamond Desk told you that upgrades are only available at corporate owned locations and not franchise locations, they don't know the rules of the program. I'd call back and talk to someone else before I'd leave the program.
I'd also avoid this property in the future.

So, one property doesn't conform, and you are taking your business elsewhere? Of course, you have that right as a customer, but I suspect you will not find any brand with 100% consistency, whether hotel or airline. Some properties do not conform, and that is easy to confirm here - check out the Trip Reports and Reviews to see which ones do, which do not.
Perhaps a more effective course of action, for Hilton and for you, might be to send an e-mail to Diamond and let them know of your disappointment with the property's lack of customer service orientation and discourtesy, with a cc: to the General Manager (you may be able to find the name in this Forum, using a Search.) Then, take your business elsewhere, since there is no lack of Hilton properties around DFW airport - or pay more to get what you actually want in any case. Nowhere in the Hilton Terms and Conditions does it say you will be upgraded to a suite if you book a two- queen room, and upgrades only occur if the inventory is available and the property is so disposed (particularly to a suite.)
OTOH, one less Diamond is just fine with me. :D

The diamond desk made it very clear that a franchise locations, its up to them which benefits they want to give.
anyone of you want to call and ask be my quest and report back what they say.
BTW i did call back and asked someone else and they gave the same answer
I found this in HH terms
"Specific Program benefits and services have been established for all HHonors Members; however, benefits and services offered by participating hotels may vary"
