Hilton HHonors - Idea for a new and worthwhile Diamond Benefit

What if Hilton allowed all diamonds wireless internet access even when they are not staying at the property.

This week I stopped and was allowed to get access at two different Hampton Inns.

Last week, I was denied at two.

Doesn't seem like it would cost them anything.

I've done this many times at Hampton Inns, and have never been denied access.

I was surprised to get denied, it has happened once or twice before. Twice in one week? That is when I had the idea.

It would be nice to know that as a Diamond, you could stop in any Hilton property to fire off that critical email.

A nice first step would be to allow free internet access when staying - mainly talking of non-US properties.

Judging by the lack of posted comments that support this idea, maybe I was wrong.

It just seemed to me it would be a nice benefit to have the knowledge of a hassle free welcome internet connection available while you travel.

And I'll agree with the previous poster, but I have to say as a Diamond, I haven't paid for HSI connections in a long long time (the last was in Japan).

It would be a nice benefit, very inexpensive and probably little used.

What I'd like to see as a benefit is for them to fix online check-in, revamp the HHonors cards to include a magnetic strip then program the locks to allow us to completly bypass the desk and use our HHonors cards as the room key. Imagine no waiting at the desk.

I certainly wouldn't object to the benefit, but Panera fills my needs during the day pretty well and they are everywhere.

Its a nice idea but most FD clerks dont know the regular HH T&C let alone any rare individualized stuff like this. Occasionally I have asked a guest with a computer in the lobby but mostly I stop at a nearby Days Inn or Choice Inn for free wi-fi.

I have found Free wireless access on the road by simply driving onto the lots of most Best Western and Choice Hotel properties. Those that offer free wireless don't usually require any passwords to get access. I can quickly send and receive my mail and continue on with my trip usually without even getting out of the car! I've even driven out to a nearby BW when the power went out at home and I needed to send some e-mails that could not wait. I have never been denied access at these properties when I have asked to use it.

Adding free wireless access for non-registered guests at Hampton's or all Hilton properties would be nice but not necessarily as a Diamond benefit. They should consider doing this to keep up with their neighbors.

.

This would not even get a mention on my list of desirable Diamond benefits. I would be more than happy if I could get guaranteed access to the Executive Lounge.

My wireless costs are completely paid by my employer so your proposal would be of no value whatsoever to me.

I fully second that in my company all employees in major locations are provided with a 3G wireless card - while it is not the most super/duper speed, it certainly does the trick marvelously.

I'd much rather get something like a comp. breakfast (on top of the guaranteed room upgrade) as a benefit

I love the idea of a magnetic strip on the back of the Diamond card to bypass the FD altogether. That would be a great new benefit!

I drive a lot and would love the benefit of pulling over to check email while en route. Although I'd probably prefer other benefits over this, if they handed it out, I'd be glad to take it.

Thanks for the tip. I paid for T-Mobile at Starbucks last time...and it was slow.

Wirelessly posted (My IV to the Net: BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Netstumbler, is great for finding a free wi-fi spot if you can't find a regular free spot (Panera, BW, etc).

Guaranteed lounge access even when not staying on Ececutive floor would be nice. Although I think this would cause issues at some larger / busier properties.

Windows wireless network connections (and the similar IBM program) also does a nice job of listing available networks and their secured or unsecured status. Netstumbler gives mucho info but I dont know what most info really means.

If you would like access like this then I would highly recommend an EVDO card, or EVDO capable phone that you can tether to your PC via a USB cable. I have one and it works great. I stay in a lot of Hilton and DT properties that don't provide free access, so this is what I use.
