Hertz - Hertz Stockholm: Neverlost confirmed at booking, not available at time of rental

I'm very annoyed with Hertz at the moment. I booked a car with them a few days ago, and selected Neverlost. The booking confirmation says: "Neverlost navigational equipment has been confirmed."

When I arrived at Hertz at the airport in Stockholm today (after a 10-minute wait and 5-minute bus shuttle ride), they had my car, but no navigation system. There were Avis and Europcar next to Hertz - they had navigation systems, but no cars, and wouldn't rent the navigation system out to me without me renting a car with them. I phoned Sixt (which was not at the same location, but where I have a Platinum Card), but they had no cars either.

The trouble is that I really need the GPS tomorrow, as I have to visit 10 locations in 7.5 hours, and don't know Stockholm well at all.

Any suggestions how to proceed? Do you think it is worth it to give a call to Hertz and get them to bring me a GPS to the hotel tomorrow morning?

Or, if I buy one, will they re-imburse the costs?

Thanks for any advice!

I think you're SOL. The most they would probably do is refund the cost of the car rental.

Buy a map.

The guy in front of us in Milan had the same issue, they offered him a tank of gas.

He yelled, screamed, generally made a total ... out of himself, they told him he could return the car without filling the tank.

Wouldn't hold your breath for much more.

Well, I didn't yell or scream but felt like it...

What I did was to call the Stockholm City center Hertz and asked them whether they had a Neverlost. They said yes, so I went there and rented it. The first stop I needed to go to, I didn't need a GPS so I didn't set it up yet. When I then wanted to turn it on, I realised that they didn't give the power cable...

So, I had to return there, and get the power cable. Furthermore, they required me to return the GPS to the city center location. Since my last stop was South and outside of Stockholm that meant I had to drive into the city center just to return the GPS (and incidentally being hit by the inner city road toll because of that) instead of just taking the motorway.

I probably lost about 2 hours because of this idiocy, but I managed.

Thanks for the advice to use a map, I wouldn't have thought of that. Seriously, it wasn't an option in this case.

The main annoyance is that I rented with Hertz specifically because they could confirm a GPS, whereas Sixt couldn't. In some sense, they obtained my business by misleading me.

I was very happy with Hertz in Copenhagen one day later where I had a similar schedule. Got a nice upgrade from a compact to a Volvo V70 Automatic, and a brandnew Neverlost (so brandnew, I had to wait for two minutes until it was charged a bit that it worked; but then, I could take it to the hotel room in the evening, and already insert the addresses I needed to go during the day).
