I'm going on a girls weekend away at the end of September and all the rooms have been booked in the name of the organiser. I've found out that she has booked for us to stay at the Scandic Hamar and as a HHonors Gold card holder I wondered whether it was worth getting her to change my room booking to my name and adding my Gold Card no. Is there any possibility of an upgrade at a Scandic hotel? Looking at the website all the rooms at the hotel appear to be the same.

Change to your name. If the reservations are in her name or she paid a group rate, you get no points. I would suggest talking to you friend and having your reservation changed.

If a change cannot be made, I would suggest asking upon check-in. You might be able to get some benefits, but YMMV.

You could have looked this information up yourself on hiltons website.

Benefits when staying at Scandic hotels
Gold VIP members will automatically receive the best available room (excluding suites), if available at check-in.
50 SEK Food & Beverage Voucher: You receive a restaurant voucher worth 50 SEK** for each night spent at Scandic hotels, although not in connection with a reward night. The voucher can be used for food and beverage (excluding tobacco, other kiosk items and administrative charges for room service) at the hotel.
Fruit & Mineral Water: Each night you will get fresh fruit and mineral water delivered to your room, free of charge.

**Or equivalent with other local currency.

However, based on how the reservation was booked, the property and occupancy at the time of check-in YMMV.

Even if not showing your Gold card at check-in, after check-in your Gold Card will still be accepted to take the fruit and water in the lobby. Scandics are not great about upgrades anyway for Gold members or even Diamond members, so there is not a whole lot to be missed out there other than an impact on the view from your room perhaps. The points and miles are hard to get on a group booking, especially if it's all on one folio and/or prepayment has taken place.

I have 60+ Nights at Scandics, and I have almost never been upgraded, even if I know that better rooms is vacant, so thats hard to get. so they are not great about that.

I stayed at Scandic Hamar for 8 days recently, and the hotel is ok, nice people in reception.

But you do get fruit and water for free in the reception, and as a Gold you get checks 50NOK that you can use buying ex coffee.

Thanks for your replies. I'll see if I can get the name changed for my room booking and see how it goes from there.

Thanks for the advice on this thread. I emailed the hotel and asked them to change the booking into my name and sent through my HHonors number. When we arrived the room was in my name and I got the water / fruit / 50k vouchers as stated.

Best of all though it posted as an 'eligible stay' with 12000 points awarded.
