Mileage Run Deals - SMF-KIX r/t $458 all in

I have a friend who just booked SMF-YVR-KIX roundtrip for $458 r/t in October. Over 11,300 miles. And, too bad for him--he has no way to upgrade on AC.
When he called the 800 # to confirm the [relatively] cheap fare, he understood her to say it was an A fare. (I know nothing about AC's fare structures.)

Is this on AC's website? I could not find it on Orbitz . . .

The cheapest I can find it now on the AC website (or anywhere) is ~$600 RT. AC has had these A fares posted for a while, but they were showing up on some websites (X-speedy-A, for example) for cheaper than the total published rate, due to possible miscalculation of some of the surcharges. That now appears to be corrected :(.

Here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=706302) is a link to the item that mechteach is talking about... The "possible miscalculation" is mentioned a few pages into the thread.

I think the reason this is to cheap is because of AC's new nonstop Sacramento to Vancouver service - there is a promotion going on with this that is likely bringing the cost way down. BUT - I think there are double miles on those segments, which might bring the cpm down a bit!

Yes, he booked on line, at aircanada.com. Then also called, as he had some questions.
roadtripman may be correct, since the SMF-YVR routing is new. However, they also could have routed him via Toronto  for only about $32 more. But since he has no AC miles with which to upgrade, he figured going SMF-YVR-KIX in Y was far enough!

Was Sacramento served by AC before? Are there non-stop flights to Toronto? If that is the case, then it might be for reasons beyond the new nonstop YVR-SMF

The mileage runner/monger in me is dreaming of so many extra miles for the taking... while the common sense in me is thinking of the extra visits to the chiropractor.

Help please..I can't find this fare anymore. I've tried ita, travelocity and ac.com. I've looked in Jan-March and the lowest I get is 1000.

This was just an extension of the fare sale they had from I beleive mid August? to December 3rd. Cheapest was in Oct-Nov and came in at 390 all in. Me and friends/family booked about 13 of these in November and last I checked 2 weeks ago, they were all gone.
You must select Alaska Airlines first let through PDX/SEA and on the return the United codeshare back to SMF
Mine looked like SMF-PDX-YVR-NRT-YVR-SMF.

I did the Alaska Airlines routing through PDX as well, but a quick check of a number of dates in November show that as no longer any cheaper. Perhaps there are some days that I am missing, though.
