China - What do you think of these hotels in Shanghai, Xian, & Beijing?
My travel agent has suggest these hotels:
Shanghai Hotel
Aurum International Hotel - Xian
Traders Hotel - Beijing
Anyone know anything about them and if I will be satisfied with them?

A little information about your preferences and your budget might help others know your criteria for satisfaction ... for example, do you want to be near tourist attractions (i.e. the Forbidden City in Beijing)? do you need extensive English speaking support (concierge, ordering food, taxi cards, etc.)?

I don't know about the place in Xi'an, but both the Shanghai Hotel and the Traders have excellent locations, reasonable rates, and 3-4 star service. The Shanghai Hotel is attached to the Jing'an Hotel. I can't recall which has the nicer rooms, but it's worth springing fro the nicer rooms (I've stayed in both; small rooms were too small; nice rooms were nice).
Traders in Bj is part of Shangrila group, on par with Kerry Center, both located in embassy area. Never stayed there but know it has been renovated. If you get same rate at Kerry Center, would highly recommend KC. Nice size rooms, excellent pool and gym (uses adjoining Kerry Center Fitness Center), good eating spots nearby.

The Kerry and CW are both much nicer hotels than the Trader's, which is Shangri-La's 4* brand. Furthermore, even the cheapest corporate rates (i.e. the ones companies like Motorola and Exxon are privy to) are more expensive than rack at the Trader's. The actual Shangri-La is just as nice as the Kerry and CW imo AND is priced similarly to the Trader's, but it is really inconveniently located for most travelers.
I am going to Xian and Beijing too in Oct/Nov.
My choice is Xian-Sheraton
Beijing-Crowne Plaza
All club floor.
This is my conclusion of my research base on most bang for the buck!:D
