Got a call from HGVC, saying I got a deal of 2 nights for $249 at the Hilton New York, but I have to listen to a 2-hour timeshare presentation. The agent said that they just finished a $90 million renovation for timeshare, so the price is low.

My first question is: 1) is this a scam since the price is too low?

2) I am travelling to New York on 9/27 and 9/28. Is there any way to guarantee these two days at the Hilton New York if I purchased the package?

3) How pushy is the timeshare presentation?

By the way, I will also get $100 Hilton credits, but not HHonors points.
thanks!

As an HGVC owner, I have been to many of their presentations (and purchased twice). I actually enjoy them... I take courtesy tours when I'm in Hawaii and Florida to get updates on what they're developing, even if no gift is offered.

Is it a scam? No, but you are required to follow through with your commitment (e.g. if you are with a spouse, both of you must attend, you must stay through the entire presentation, etc. read the fine print). You will be in a one-on-one tour/pitch with yourself, your spouse/partner, and the sales agent.

Are they pushy? Of all the timeshare pitches I have been to (Marriott, Disney among others), I'd say HGVC is probably above average on the pressure scale. They start to get pushy towards the end ("So... which level shall I sign you up for?"), but they WILL take no for an answer, and they will follow through on the promised gifts/premiums and hotel stay with no hassles. Considering the low hotel rate (for NYC) and the extra $100, I'd say go for it. It seems like a fair deal.

BTW, on the "pressure scale" the Disney Vacation Club presentation is probably the lowest... like none at all. It was nice. Then again, they don't offer much for listening either.
