Hilton HHonors - Pre-check in Upgrade but moved to smoking?

Hey gang. Not sure what the best thing to do is.....

The great news:

Im checking into Budapest Hilton in a few days. Online I notice that my reservation has me upgraded pre-check-in (Im Diamond) to a King Executive Plus room. THis is the best category room listed! Views, lounge access, you name it.... SWEET!

The not so great news:

I cant help but notice that it states "smoking" room. ugh.

The dilemma: I really don't want to make a fuss out of the change to 'smoking' as the property is SO excellent to upgrade me prior to checkin. Truly a model for all Hilton properties..... but, the idea of a smoking room is not so fun.

Im thinking of just going with it, and if it turns out the smoking room is too bad....letting the staff know after check-in.

Any advice from others on how to handle situation delicately???

Thanks in advance....

Follow your nose... IMO, if the room was OK and wasn't a problem - and we all have different tolerances for smoke - but if it were bad, I'd certainly head back to the check in desk and say something like "I didn't realize I'd been upgraded to a smoking room - do you have a similar room in nonsmoking available?" or the like.

IMO, lots of options here... and contacting them in advance by e-mail might yield a result as as well. But some properties where smoking regulations are lax seem to try to keep the upgraded rooms / suites largely "smoking" so they can avoid saying "no" to higher-paying guests.

This whole area is one where I have mixed feelings. When I'm smoking (as I am now) I tend to get annoyed at properties which have no smoking rooms at all.

But equally when I'm trying to quit, which happens with depressing regularity, I really, really like a smoke, and lingering smell of past smoke free, environment.

On the whole, your plan seems like a wise one to me. Oddly enough, if you're a lifelong non-smoker, your tolerance for previously smoked in rooms might even be higher than mine during a quitting phase!

OK, all this talk of smoking has made me want to light up now. That's one reason why I find the current ubiquity of no smoking signs unhelpful when I'm trying to quit ;)

It appears to be a bug on hilton.com. Nearly all my about 20 European reservations during the last four months changed to smoking on this system, but were on non-smoking in the hotels' systems.

Enjoy the room, is has breathtaking views over the Parliament, the river and the town.

I had a friend just return from the hotel.
She was also upgraded, and that is very much worth even a smoking room.
And if you do ask for a NS at reception I'm sure they can help you, right now it's quite low season over there.

I was hoping to see an actual resolution to this issue.

I have the same thing here at the Budapest Hilton and since I'm paying for a Exec Plus room I am very disappointed that my reservation says smoking, which i will not tolerate.

I will try to update this next week when I return.

call the hotel directly and ask them to change it to a non-smoking room.

call the hotel directly and ask them to change it to a non-smoking room.I concur. I've had the same problem. Calling the hotel directly will resolve the issue very quickly. Do so before you arrive lest there be no non-smoking rooms left when you show up at the hotel.

I have stated there 4 times and each time requested a NS room but got a smoking room upon check-in. I protested but no NS roomes were available at noon (but would be available later they said). Each time I went to the room, gave it a nose test and it was fine..............actually better than most NS rooms in Europe. I stacked the ashtrays in the corner and thoroughly enjoyed this very nice superior hotel. The lobby seating area is heavy with tobacco smoke along with bar. Avoid them.

OK, I'm going to cross my fingers on this one--also have a reservation for Hilton Budapest next week that's been changed to smoking in the system, although when I first booked it said "non-smoking confirmed". When I called the 1-800 reservations number, they told me the room category that I'm down for right now is a non-smoking room, so I'm hoping it's just a bug like Flying Lawyer mentioned. Although an upgrade would be nice...

tenmoc, would be interested to hear the outcome of your reservation.

As of last night (Wednesday) it is showing non smoking online now. I check in tomorrow so I'll let you all know.

I did not call the hotel directly although I feel that's great advice. I did make 3 calls to the DD over the course of 1.5 months regarding this though.

Except for the first time which was a clear case of hang up and call again they confirmed me in a non smoking and said i was and resent the emails.

Anyway. Really looking forward to my weekend here and hoping the room is worth it, as in my case anyway, it is my paid room level. Tired of playing the upgrade and exec level access game in europe.
