South - Does ANY airline fly nonstop from Raleigh-Durham to San Francisco???

It seems kinda strange, considering how strong the tech industry is in Raleigh. But I can't seem to find a direct flight to San Francisco from here, and it's driving me crazy. On American I had to spend a night in St. Louis because AA sucks, then a 2 hour delay in Dallas on the way back. It was ridiculous.

I don't know if all the sites (expedia, travelocity, etc) really list all airlines or just selected affiliates.

If there aren't any N/S flights on this route, which airline has given you the most direct route? It kills (the environmentalist in) me to fly any further than necessary.

Thanks!

I'm surprised you didn't mention US. Try them via Charlotte.

I don't think some entire airlines will ever flies from RDU-SFO but, there is in the past as for Midway was flies non-stop from RDU-SJC before 9/11. It was being shutdown some of entirely flights in/out from RDU hub. I have enough good memorable which specific airlines was flies non-stop from RDU.

Have you checked SouthWest Airlines?

Yep, I checked Southwest, they routed it through Vegas.

As for flying out of Charlotte, I really don't want to drive 140 miles then pay for long-term parking for 2 weeks. I guess I just have to get used to the charming little differences about life in a small town, after having only ever lived in very major cities.

I'm surprised you didn't mention US. Try them via Charlotte.

I have a colleague who's been doing RDU-SFO RT every week for the last year or so and he says US via CLT is the best option for this route.

If you don't subscribe to oag.com, you might try kayak.com to answer questions like these. It adds in JetBlue and Southwest flight data that is often excluded by other search engines.

RDU is really not anyone's hub, although American has a fairly large presence there. I'm guessing that the airlines probably figured that running that route would not make them enough money in the long run. I think the farthest flights I've seen from RDU (save the RDU-LGW AA 777) are DL to SLC, US (HP) to PHX, WN to LAS, and NW to MSP.

Like you said, it is a smaller area. But, you can either use US to SFO via CLT, or DL to SFO via ATL as well. You're not adding too much extra time.

Welcome to both Flyertalk and our charming small town. There are no nonstops RDU-SFO. We can hope that Virgin America decides to offer one as they grow.

I agree the drive from Raleigh to CLT is not fun, but consider Amtrak's daily service if the nonstop is that important to you.

If you rely on BART upon arrival in the Bay Area you can consider airlines that serve both SFO and OAK. Since I require a car to get me out to the Livermore/San Ramon area I'm willing to also use SJC. Having the flexibility of selecting from 3 airports gives me more options for better fares. I'm usually on DL or US.

If you prefer a redeye return you should consider UA thru IAD, US thru CLT, or DL thru ATL.

If I remember correctly, both AA and UA used to fly direct from SJC or SFO when I was a student at Duke - both have long since stopped doing so. It wouldnt surprise me if one of them were to restart service at some point in the near future, or potentially Virgin America.
