Hi All,

I know i might regret it, but I am thinking of renting a car during my 24 hours in Dallas to head to downtown and the AA museum.

Just wondering what car rental companies do you recommend (pickup and drop off at DFW)

I am a Hertz Gold member, but I saw their car selections and it is a bit ordinary.

Ideally I wouldn't mind something nice like a convertible (is it a wise idea is the Texas heat?) or something a bit more luxurious (we only have 2 in the party, but will have 4 suitcases in total!)

All DFW rentals are via a shared shuttle bus to the same rental car center, so little difference there. If it were me, I'd probably Priceline or Hotwire and take whatever I get.

I live here and drive a convertible. This time of year, I go topless in the mornings, usually till about 10 or 11; and in the evenings, after about 8pm. In between, I find it too hot, and just put the top up and crank the AC.

My last two convert rentals had minimum trunk(dodge thing and ford thing).

I use EZcarrental because they have the shortest lines most of the time. they charge minimum premium for full size car. last car was a Chrysler 300. charge was under $100 for 3 days.

tell whomever you rent from that you want a light colored car.

carry an insurance card, just in case. also, bring a roll of quarters.

also, I never get whatever I sign up for, at any agency.

DFW rental car taxes are high. Expect taxes and fees to add ~60% to the cost.

DFW Last thurs am-sun am(3 day) was $60 for car, $40 for tax (cdw waived) for a chrysler 300 T from EZcar.

same car in a couple of weeks for same time frame at BDL will cost my wife $247. from thrifty. no ezcar in BDL.
