JetBlue TrueBlue - What's the maximum o/w fare systemwide?

bk3day

Searching around I saw an older press release stating that the highest fare B6 charged was $349 O/W.

just curious, does anyone know if that max fare still holds?

TIA

Unfortunately that list is outdated. For example, the highest fare between JFK and RIC is now $199. Nonetheless, the highest non-stop flight fare on B6 is $399. Here is the breakdown:

Short-haul (eg: BOS-PIT, JFK-ROC): $199 o/w (with the exception of JFK-PIT at $189, LGB-OAK/LAS at $149, LGB-SLC $179, JFK-PIT $189, JFK-ACY $279, BOS-IAD $209)

Medium-haul (eg: BOS-FLL, SYR-MCO): $299 o/w, though on holidays and holiday weekends it's $399 (with the exception of JFK/BOS-NAS at $329, JFK/BOS-CLT at $249, JFK/BOS-RDU at $239, JFK-BNA at $254, JFK-HOU at $349, JFK/BOS-AUS $349, and JFK-ORD $254)

Long-haul (eg: IAD-SAN, SFO-JFK): $399 o/w (no exceptions)

Hope this helps!

I don't think all short flights fall under your short haul examples. For example, JFK-BOS, a prime business route, is maxed at $159 each way. This is MUCH lower than DL and US out of LGA. Some numbers on that list might not be up to date, but for the most part, I fnd fares to be in line...

JFK-ACY $279

Huh? Way easier to hire a limo to drive down to Atlantic City (plus B6 doesn't fly there).

*Just for reference, the absolute highest one-way fare systemwide seems to be $599, which occurs for some double-long-haul connecting flights (example: LGB-SJU, flown as LGB-JFK-SJU).

Yes, that's what I meant in post 2 of this thread. The highest nonstop fare does not exceed $399. For LGB-JFK-SJU to be maxed out at $599 (which, by the way, is very rare) that is not bad either. LGB-FLL-PSE, if possible, might even be cheaper now.

JFK-BOS was recently upped to $199 each way. It's no longer at $159 one way. All short flights are capped at $199 unless noted otherwise in my post.

And my bad on ACY. I meant ACK.

You know, I actually wasn't even referring to that story. I was referring to my own flight's diversion to Atlantic City to refuel on July 18th after we were holding to land at JFK for so long. I didn't endure nearly the delay the passengers on that flight did, but it was still frustrating.

Speaking of maximums...

I priced out a ticket for Christmas, SEA-JFK (21 Dec - 1 Jan), and boy was I surprised. $399 each way for both segments, putting the RT price at $818! :td:

For comparable flights, DL wants $468. AA doesn't offer a red eye, but their daytime flights price in at $379. Similar situation at Thanksgiving as well. This is not just peak times either - it's a pretty consistent pattern on this route. It's unfortunate, but as a leisure traveler who mostly flies transcons to NYC I think I'll be taking my business to DL. Sucks to lose the legroom but I'll pack my own snacks to save $375.

You should probably hold off on booking that. Since December is so far away, the fares are still high to wheel in some high-paying advanced bookings. As September and October approach, those fares should definitely go down. It's a yield management trick, and it works.

Actually got a pretty good deal 2 months ago on my Thanksgiving flight - $265RT on DL departing Saturday before Thanksgiving, coming back the Sunday after. I'll be watching FareCompare for sure.

Key word: Christmas. This is peak travel season, when airlines make their money. Nearly all seats are going to be occupied either way so this is a chance for them to charge higher fares.

I understand your frustration with jetBlue currently being priced higher than other airlines on NYC-SEA, however, let's keep in mind that jetBlue INTRODUCED low fares to the market. If jetBlue (or other low cost carriers) were NOT in the market, then fares would still be sky high. $399 each way for a transcon is a bit high, but it's the fare cap...remember the days when you were lucky to find something for $399 nonstop across the country at a normal hour, let alone any ordinary non-holiday. Oh wait, you had to book ROUND TRIP, SAT. NIGHT STAY, etc. with other restrictions.

JetBlue is usually lower in price, especially on most walkup fares, and someone else in this thread mentioned how fares usually drop closer to the date of departure. If the flight does not fill, I see JFK-SEA going down to around ~ $299, if not a little less.

I don't blame you for taking the cheaper DL flight, hey, I probably would in thsi particular case. At the same time, though, remember that you won't be able to get the fare difference, should it decrease after purchase - something that I benefit from by staying with Blue.

Not entirely true, though it may have a change fee associated with it. CO definitely won't give it to you, but the others are hit-or-miss on that front.

As for starting with high prices and reducing them later, CO does this on some routes as well, and they're making money, too, so maybe that's the new future of airline revenue management. Who knows?

You're right, that's what I meant.

On Delta and American, for example, if a lower fare on the exact flight(s) for your date(s) comes out and you call, you'll first be charged a "Downgrade" or "Rollover" fee. I love these terms - these airlines should use common sense!!!!! And, I don't want to hear about "hedging against the possible price increase when one purchases a ticket"...no other industry works this way, especially retail!

More importantly, often times, the change fee charged eats up the difference in fare. For example, if the fare drops $30 and the fee is $50...then what's the point!?!?!? Even on a $100 fare drop (which is rare), why lose out on half of that?

sbm12
Jul 31, 07, 2:26 pm

Plenty of other industries work this way, including several branches of retail (which is a very large space). Do you ask for money back when the gas station drops prices? What about when milk or cereal go on sale at the grocery? Pre-paid hotel rooms offer no refund/adjustment if the price drops (and this almost just happened to me at a Hilton in New Orleans). You can't renegotiate the price on a car after you sign the contract, nor on shares of stock.

Retail has limits on it, for the most part. Most stores have a limit on how long you can wait before you can no longer claim the credit.

Come companies have restrictions and some don't. That's the nature of any competitive industry. I don't consider that aspect of the ticket price to be a significant inducement of my purchasing power because I rarely see a situation where it would be something I could actually benefit from (ie I generally buy at the low point anyways).

The average fares are from October 2004 to September 2005! Data that's nearly 2+ years old is referenced.

Per the fine print on that page... "All fares based on booked data for year end 9/30/2005".

Everyone knows fares have gone up in the last two years. Can't B6 post something a bit more current? Daily updates could be *easily* provided, yet B6 has pushed no updates for nearly two years now; talking about living in the past.

I know I'm sounding like a B6-basher but this is something that gets under my skin from a truth-in-advertising perspective. If B6 wants to be serious about Corporate Travel, at least keep the selling information a bit more updated.
