I'm planning to fly BOS-SFO on either 10/5 or 10/6. On friday, B6 departs for SFO at noon time and on saturday around 6 pm.

I think this doesn't make sense. Fridays, I have to work until 5 pm, so the 6 pm flight would be perfect since it give me a night of fun in SFO. Saturdays, I would like to leave as early as possible (around noon) so I will arrive in the afternoon which gives me time to explore SFO and have dinner.

Looks like I have to fly with another airline... :td:

This new schedule begins this Friday. The change allows for connecting flights from SFO to SLC.. There is, however, still service to OAK at 7:40pm (but OAK of course is not SFO)...

I agree, OAK is not SFO if you're taking BART into town. Not so bad if you're renting a car, though. Except for the stoopid bus shuttle at OAK to the rental facility, I find car access into the city via Bay Bridge less of a hassle than driving 101 into SF, even with the bridge toll.

Methinks that B6 has the Fri/Sat BOS-SFO schedule bass-ackwards. There should be 6PM Friday and Noon Saturday departures BOS-SFO IMHO, it sure would make a quick weekend trip a whole lot easier to plan. For now, it's DL via ATL or SLC which makes more schedule sense (not necessarily fare sense) to me. But I love the in-flight experience on B6 so I'm hoping things change :)

OAK is not SFO, but if you are using BART into downtown San Francisco, the AirBART bus from OAK + BART ride from Coliseum is not significantly different in time than the BART ride from SFO.

Yea, that may be true but the AirBART shuttle doesn't run any more frequently than that stoopid shuttle to car rental, so when I go to OAK, I usually drive into SF. When I fly into SFO, I do BART...so much greener :)

Also taking BART for a flight that arrives so late into Oakland means if you are checking baggage or the flight gets in a little late, you miss the last AirBart and end up paying for an expensive cab/shuttle. Arriving late into SFO, you can quickly walk from BART which is minutes from the B6 gate and if the flight is very late, you can still get a cheap shuttle into the city.

Perhaps the solution is a second flight from SFO to BOS in the morning with an evening return. This would certainly make it possible for more business travelers to book with B6 over UA. Not too many people I know want to take a red eye to BOS unless they absolutely have to do it.

Off-topic but potentially useful:

OAK has all-night bus service (AC Transit Route 805 (http://www.actransit.org/maps/schedule_results.php?ms_view_type=1&version_id=2&maps_category=4&maps_line=805&map_submit=Get+Schedule); see also Route 50 (http://www.actransit.org/maps/schedule_results.php?ms_view_type=1&version_id=2&maps_category=4&maps_line=50&map_submit=Get+Schedule)), with timed transfers to outlying parts of the East Bay (route map (http://transit.511.org/providers/allnighter.pdf)) and to San Francisco (Route 800 (http://www.actransit.org/maps/schedule_results.php?ms_view_type=1&version_id=2&maps_category=4&maps_line=800&map_submit=Get+Schedule)).

SFO has all-night bus service (SamTrans Route 397 (http://www.samtrans.com/pdf/Schedules/Route_297_397_08-20-06.pdf); see also Route KX (http://www.samtrans.com/pdf/Schedules/Route_KX_10-10-05.pdf)), with direct service to San Francisco and Palo Alto.

These bus services are popular with airport workers.

This seems like a strange strategic move by B6. The BOS-SFO route should be very lucrative, with high loads and high fares. Lots of business travel. On the other hand, BOS-SLC has generally lower fares, and is served non-stop by DL.

It makes me wonder if it is really worth it for B6 to tinker with a schedule that might cost them some business travelers just to add a few BOS-SFO-SLC pax? With the DL non-stop to SLC and plenty of 'on the way' stops for other legacy carriers, how many people will actually fly to SFO to get to SLC? My guess is not many. And assuming that they sell BOS-SLC competitive with that market, it could actually lower the avg margin for them on the BOS-SFO route.

On the other hand, I talked to one of my tech exec friends who flies BOS-SFO a lot, often on B6, and he welcomed the change, saying that the evening flight gets in too late and makes him too tired the next day. So what do I know.....

Thanks, but you misquoted me...I had originally posted "bass-ackwards". I do love those wide-mouth bass so :D

Secretly I'm hoping for a favorable BOS-SFO schedule change on B6 before Labor Day Weekend, but I fear it ain't gonna happen :(
