I don't imagine that SYD or AKL will have any problems with bugs but when we're out by Port Douglas and the Daintree area or Uluru should we bring repellent?

Went back for the head nets and used them almost all the time we were outside, except at the resort proper where they didn't seem to be needed. Made all the difference in being able to enjoy the sights and experiences. Haven't been to Port Douglas/Daintree area so can't comment on the need there, sorry. blort Jul 22, 07, 6:58 pm Insect repellent alone was fine for me in Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation in January. Zarf4 Jul 22, 07, 9:43 pm Haven't been to Uluru, but on my last trip to Oz I brought some 22% deet repellent. Found that the local product Aeroguard (sp?) worked much better. Especially liked the roll-on dispenser. Redcenterflyer Jul 22, 07, 9:51 pm Summer will be worse for flies at Ayers Rock then winter. A fly net for about 6 bucks wouldn't be too bad of an investment for hiking around the area. caleo Jul 22, 07, 10:44 pm Summer will be worse for flies at Ayers Rock then winter. My friend's new favorite picture is me sitting on a rock, bug spray in hand, while coughing with my tongue sticking out after accidentally tasting the nasty spray. Unfortunately, bugs were so bad that she had many opportunities to catch the photo. And definitely buy the spray in australia as it seemed to work better than the American ones. |
