Just got this Voyager update:
SAA Consolidated Ticket Offices
South African Airways has! recently introduced new policies to simplify your travel experience. As from July 2007 SAA Revenue Ticket Sales Offices and Voyager Ticketing Offices at the Airports in South Africa will be consolidated, which means that you will now be able to do all your ticketing transactions at one office.
This process will be rolled out starting with Durban from 15 July and ending with Johannesburg on 15 October 2007.
New Domestic fare structure
As part of its continuous improvement strategy SAA recently introduced new fare families for Domestic routes. This will simplify your booking process and make on-line bookings even more user friendly. Elite members will still enjoy all the Tier benefits except for pre-seating on Classic and Saver fare families. Elite Members will only be able to pre-seat on Premium and Select fare families. More about these fare rules can be found on www.flysaa. com.
Excess baggage Awards
Due to limited usage of the Excess baggage awards, the award will no longer be available from 1 August 2007.
Payment with Miles
Effective 1 August 2007 members will no longer be able to pay for service fees or replacement of membership cards using Miles.
Service Fees
SAA city and airport offices will be charging a service fee effective 1 August 2007. For more information contact our call centre on 0860 003 145.
New Web site - www.flysaa.com
Our new website has been launched and members can now redeem SAA flight tickets, and certain Non-air awards online. Members can also issue their own tickets on SAA e-ticket routes. No service fee will be applicable for any online redemptions and you will receive a 3% discount when you redeem your flight award online.
The first point is good news. No more running between ticketing and Voyager desk for upgrades. ^
The second is bad news! :td: Even elite Voyager members (which no longer includes me) can't pre-seat on cheap fares. I would be really hacked off if I were still Voyager Gold and couldn't pre-seat.
As for "more about these fares can be found on flysaa.com"... where exactly?!?! You have to do a booking before any information is available! And thanks, SA, for giving specifics about your new charges. The reluctance to put anything in writing is probably a reflection of half-baked ideas being implemented without having thought them through.
