I would like to know if it is easier to claim companion award in business class vs other awards, eg..upgrades, round trip tickets,etc..?

Some people have claimed that companion awards get a higher priority, all other things (such as status) being equal, although it seems to me that status is a much more important factor.

I successfully redeemed a companion award just yesterday on the phone but before I called MPO I checked online for straight redemption and UG availability, both were unavailable. (I also learnt you can not check for companion ticket availability online without a valid revenue booking! How annoying!?)
I called up MPO thinking I would put my wife on the wait-list and hopefully my DM status will expedite the clearance. To my surprise the agent said there was a seat available. I then probed if there are different "U" class, the agent said yes but she can see the sub classes, one "U" on her screen.
Now, before some cynics come and suggest the CX online availability tool could be wrong and in fact, U was wide open, I did also check with the agent that redemption/UG were indeed not available on that day/flight. ;)
