InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Anyone stayed at an IC the night of its opening?

Hey Folks,

I am considering staying at the "new" (well, rebranded) IC Tampa when it opens in August since the prices are pretty good. I figured I might as well stay the first night, although it doesn't totally fit in my schedule but I could definitely make time for it. For those that have stayed at a hotel the first night it's open, any experiences to share? Was there anything different than any other night, or is is just like any other stay? Maybe a gift bag at check-in or something?

Not only did I stay at an IC on opening night, I was also the VERY FIRST guest 10 months ago at IC Chongqing, China. I wrote up a trip report here:

I was only a brand spanking new Ambassador at the time (I had just signed up for Ambassador status a couple days before just for that stay), but I was treated like a King, and I will certainly never forget that stay! ^

I'd highly reccommend that you go for it if it at all fits your schedule. And since you're RA, wake up early and get there at 8AM so you can be the very first guest. :p Trust me, it's worth it!!! ^

Set on Milan’s spectacular Piazza Duomo, in a building dating back to 1860 that was originally built entirely from marble, the InterContinental Milan Grand Hotel Duomo is scheduled to open in 2008 after a significant renovation.

I'd seen the press release, but wondered if any of you had any 'insider' knowledge of roughly when in 2008 it'd be ready - I can't believe they don't have a date in mind!
