Dear everyone, I have an upcoming trip to Vancouver and I'm considering CX first class on its nonstop flight from JFK--CX 889. Quite frankly, I'm not liking the fare, which is almost $6,000 USD, but I realize CX will have by far the best services and amenities on this route. I refuse to fly Air Canada.

Has anyone flown CX 889 from JFK to YVR recently in First? I would really appreciate menu details, as well as items such as amenity kits and sleep suits given on the flight. I have taken CX several times in the past, thus I'm assuming most likely there will be Haagen Datz ice cream onboard.

Thanks for reading my thread!

It's the full international F service, as most of the passengers are typically continuing to/from Hong Kong. Caviar (westbound only), soup, salad, several entree choices, etc.
Well, I've actually only flown it on the winter schedule, with a ~9pm departure. In the summer (during daylight savings time), it's an 11pm departure. It's possible that the service is somewhat abbreviated, though I'm not certain.

As a CX F passenger, you can also eat at the BA Business Class pre-flight dining which is a half-decent buffet offering in the Terraces Lounge at JFK.

On the flight, you get sleeper suits, amenity kits and duvets.

It's probably the finest transcontinental product that you can book on its own. But that doesn't make it worth $6000, IMHO, unless money was no object to you. You might consider Business class, which is probably substantially cheaper, and will still probably be miles above what AC offers on a narrowbody.

Seasonally, Continental flies Newark-YVR. Their service and catering is very good, but it's still a domestic-equipped aircraft with regular seats. That will probably only cost you less than ~US$1,500 r/t.

CX is my favorite airline. As ijgordon mentions, if price is no object, CX is the pick for sure. My one warning is that as the flight originates in HKG there is always the chance of a major delay making the late departure even later. Same on the way back. That said, I take it both when I go to HKG and YVR and only once have i had a big delay.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! CX has confirmed that as of today, only two passengers (including myself) are booked in F. I hope F doesn't leave full, this would allow the 3 F cabin crew members to increase their efficiency. I still have to wait a month.

Quite a splurge for a quasi domestic trip! If you have the money, then why not?

I have taken CX F a few times but all the way from JFK-HKG. I justified the price for the extraordinary distance. For a 5 hour flight (rather than approx 18 hours) I may have opted for CX J instead. If it was not much more for F, then maybe;)

No matter what, enjoy the flight. It is one of the best F classes out there. Alway consistent and very relaxing!

BTW, I am out on SQ J tomorrow from JFK-DPS!!!! First time in J on SQ (many times in F). I hope I am not too spoiled with the tier down:eek:

AA and UA charge $4800 rt JFK/LAX with a far inferior product, although premium air fares seem to be skyrocketing. I was pricing a BA LAX/GVA/JFK in September that was coming out over 10k in CW!

If you can, try the new SQ J on its B777-300ER fleet. F is incredible, but so is J. SQ assigns 3 cabin crew members to 8 F passengers, and 6 cabin crew members to the 42 J passengers on this aircraft.

Just did JFK-HKG in F last week. They do serve caviar and you get the normal international F experience. Sleeper suit (black/neon blue from Shanghai Tang), Victorinox amenity pack and duvet. Flight time is about 4.5 hours so you need to choose between sleeping or eating. Movies on demand as well if you are not tired since the flight leaves at 11 pm.

I think you should expect the cabin to be very full since it is summer now and F from JFK to YVR and YVR to HKG are both full. I think there are lots of ops up. Some kids in F as well.

CX F is best enjoyed (IMHO) when the flight is long enough for an uninteruppted snooze on the flat/horizontal bed and getting up refreshed with a glass of OJ served with a smile.

shorter hops (eg JFK-YVR) are more like luxurious pampering sessions :)

I like F as much as the next guy, but don't you think it makes more sense to take the US$3,000 fare differential between Business/D and First/F and get a nice hotel suite at your destination, a massage or two, and a real gourmet dinner?

That's why I said above that unless money was no object (and you would do the suite/massage/dinner regardless), I didn't think F was worth the price.

When using miles, however, JFK-YVR in F is actually a great option. 60K AAdvantage miles in F vs. 45K in J.

You are absolutely right, but after experiencing CX F, I kinda fear business class lol. The flat beds, the meals (including Haagen Datz ice cream!), the soft duvets, StudioCX, and knowing that you are being looked after by 3 caring cabin members is almost priceless. On my last CX F flight, I was not feeling well at all, and the ISM checked on me at least 15 times throughout the flight. If I would have been flying a US carrier, I bet they would have prayed that I died and thus didn't bother them at all.

Could you not get a whole year's supply of three meals a day of Haagen Dasz ice cream for US$3000?

CX J is far better than AA domestic F.

I remember hearing an unconfirmed story that when the Qatari Royal Family was vacationing at Hayman Island a few years back they had their plane do a daily or every couple days run up to Tahiti or Fiji for a specific type of mango a senior member of the family liked and wanted fresh. I guess for some people price is irrelevant :D

You are absolutely right, but after experiencing CX F, I kinda fear business class lol.And after experiencing the Four Seasons, I kinda fear the Sheraton. (Well actually, the big Sheraton (Wall Centre?) in Vancouver is pretty decent...but certainly no Four Seasons!)

Well actually I find the luxury collection from Starwood to be a hit or a miss. Take Paris for example, the Prince De Gaulle hotel is an absolute disgrace to be called Luxury Collection - compare to the Four Seasons George V hotel next door, it is like comparing SW to CX!

If you are going in F, which lounge can you use? BA Concorde Room or Terraces.

Also, do you check-in at the BA First counter or does CX have their own check-in area. I hope it's the BA one as they have their own security line.

Lastly, will the lounges even be open at the time of the flight, leaves at 11pm.

I agree, but the majority of Luxury Collection hotels elsewhere in Europe (e.g. Rome) are truly 5-star.
