We arrive into HKG on BA F and have a 2.5 hr connection(no checked baggage)to a CX J HKG-BKK flight, they are on separate bookings. Will BA issue us CX BPs at LHR? if not can we remain airside and use a flight connections route and get the CX BPs issued in the CX lounge or do we have to enter HKG and check- in at a CX counter landside. On the way home will CX issue us with the BA BPs in BKK for the HKG-LHR leg?

As far as I know, as long as they see your reservation in their system, they will issue you boarding passes and check your luggage all the way through to BKK. They are allied airlines, so I am very sure they can. My daughter flew to Melbourne a while back from EWR and was on AA to LAX and QF to Melbourne. Checking in at AA she was issued her QF bp as well. So if AA can do it, then honestly I'm sure BA can.

Yes, BA should be able to issue BP's for CX even though they are on separate bookings. Even if there's a problem, you have plenty of time in HKG and can get your boarding passes at a CX lounge or flight connections center. There's no need to enter HKG. The same applies in the reverse direction.

There are occasions when BA will not be able to see CX's booking. Apparently the systems are incompatible (that's what I have been told a number of times). Seeing that you don't have any checked bags, you don't have to clear immigration as I presume you could just go straight to the transfer desk in Hong Kong to get your boarding pass issued!

just a side note: If you do end up having bags, make sure BA tags them to your final destination in order for you to be protected for your onward connecting flight!

I have a similar question here, however my transit point will be LHR.
MUC-LHR-HKG all the way in J.

How long should I reserve for the connection? Is it better to re-check my bag at LHR CX counter? Do Germany BA ports have any Club tags?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, the MCT at LHR is 90mins.

If you have booked your flights on a single booking, the res system will ensure that the connection time will meet the minimum requirement. However, on separate bookings, I would advise that you leave yourself a little more time just in case BA refused to check your bags through (happened to me once before I discovered FT!)

Having said that, you could always insist that they are obliged to check you through to HKG by virtue of their obligations under oneworld agreement. However, should they refuse to do so and your flight's been delayed, you will not be protected. It is up to you whether you want to take this risk.

hope this helps.

p.s. As for the Club tags, apparently BA won't tag your bags as Club because they are lobbed into a different "bin" for connecting flights. I tried insisting it before but they are adamant that the bags will be lost at LHR.

My ticket would be issued by CX under one booking. But I am just worrying about the problem of losing bags on BA-CX connection at LHR. I wouldn't have time to re-check in my bag at CX counter as I would leave MUC in the evening and connect 254. Any suggestions? I did not have any experience on immediate connecting flights at LHR after being a MPC member. My bags were lost twice when I was a normal EY traveler.

Me thinks in this situation, you will simply have to trust BA's competent bagshifters to transfer your bags to T3 on to your connecting flight. However, you could always ask CX lounge attendants to verify whether your bags have been loaded on to the flight. In my experience, they should be able to give you the info. This will at least give you a peace of mind that BA hasn't done their usual trick of loosing bags between terminals.

Hope this helps

I have been on the same trip as yours (MUC-LHR-HKG). There is no problem that BA checks your luggage all the way to HK. However, when I checked in at MUC last time, BA had problem in printing the boarding pass for my connecting CX flight. Anyway, when I arrive LHR, I went to the CX counters and have my BP printed. No problem at all!

Would you mind telling which flights you were taking? Did they lose any of your check-in bags?
