Is it practical (or possible/permissible) to buy a USA AppleCare MacBookPro package for a MBP that was purchased and is based overseas?
There is a $150+ price differential for me between apple.com/store (@~AUD$411) and apple.com/au/store (@AUD$579), so I'd like to know if you've done it.
I searched thr forum re. AppleCare and wonder if resellers selling the AppleCare MBP retail package could sell it to me, if this is a viable alternative to apple.com.
Thank you, worldwide Apple FTers!
[Just to add: US AppleCare T&C states it is valid only in the 50 States. Many Aussies have bought gear from US Apple shops, so could AppleCare packs be bought just as easily?
A kind FTer has already advised that eBay AppleCare packs are also on ebay.com.au!]

You are only going to find out for sure when you need it, and if the screen or motherboard goes, its too late to buy an AU AppleCare then...
If it were me, for that investment, I would take the AU one. Just my opinion, no facts.
If you buy USA applecare (good only in 50 US states), then you must have and/or use US address for repairs, etc. Don't expect to go to authorized Aussie dealer for repairs.
If you buy Aussie applecare, not sure if it covers you both home as well as overseas (eg USA, assuming you visit us).
Regardless of cost, IMHO it's worth it to buy. I've gotten 3 macs, all with apple care and fortunately only one needed it - but got new logicboard etc. I would personally be willing to buy a 5 yr package if they made it available. All of my macs, iMac, iBook and Powerbook are off applecare now...

Can someone verify if there is a difference between the ones from the US and the ones from other nations. We own multiple macs and some where purchased in other countries for our out of country employees. When I purchased the apple care the genius told me that they were good world wide

If you want the definitive answer, contact APPLE. This is a message board, if someone posts on here "its OK!", it does not mean apple would agree.
Email/Write to them to get the answer, then you actually have something in writing IF something goes wrong.
Even the "genius" bar people's words mean nothing if it came to a dispute.

Just to explain - I was looking at a used Pbk that is still under warranty. Turns out to be a scam seller so I'll forget it.
Mt Pbk 12" is out of warranty and not starting, probably motherboard and expensive, so I was looking at replacement options.
Will just look at the cost to fix this one for now, before thinking of a replacement.
I'll not bother with US Applecare in future, unless I buy the Mac there and can keep the AppleCare with the machine.
Thank you all, especially the Aussie FTer, you know who you are. ^:D
