South - DFW in less than 24 hours

I will be having a transit stop in DFW (arriving around 1915 or 2040 - depending how much is there to do in Dallas or Fort Worth??) and I will leave the following morning 1125 to LA.

Just have the following questions:

1) Should I stay in DFW Airport, Downtown Dallas or Fort Worth (where is that located anyway?)

2) What is there to do at that time of the evening and in the morning

3) Bearing in mind the limited time what should I focus in doing?

4) How long does it take from the airport to Fort Worth or Downtown Dallas?

What day of the week? And are you willing to rent a car?

Either downtown is about a half hour drive from DFW.
