I've located a decent Biz fare LAX-ICN-HKG on OZ, but it's a "Z" fare. I did not see Z listed on BD's online chart of mileage earning fare classes for OZ flights. Before I drop a few grand on a flight, I'd like to know whether it will earn BD status miles.

Oh well, scratch that idea. Thank you. It's a bit silly when a $3300 ticket doesn't earn miles on an alliance partner.

Thats weird because all other Star partner Z class incl LH / UA earn 200% !!! Maybe call BMI and ask them in case its just been missed. Better still email them and get it in writing in case you book and then dont get the miles.

Oh well, no worries. I managed to find a UA F fare to HNL (books into "A") for half the price of the OZ Biz flight, that nets 30,000 BD Miles. With the cash I'll save from not going to HKG on OZ, I'll be able to afford a nicer hotel in HNL (and earn more miles whilst I'm at it) :)

It would still be good to find out if Z class earns miles ? Anyone want to sacrifice themselves and call India ?

I called India yesterday and was told I needed to call back when the Diamond Club Service Center (or somesuch entity) was open, and that they at the Indian Call Centre had no clue (go figure). I'm not particularly keen on setting a 4am alarm stateside so I can talk with the folks at DC.

Try e-mailing or PM'ing diamond club for confirmation of whether this fare qualifies or not.
I am certain that in the past there has been a similar query and she was able to confirm with the relevant department within BD what the actual accrual was and have the earning chart updated

Done. Thanks for the tip. BTW, have you stayed at Tigerlily in EDI? I was considering it for my next stay there. Best city on earth. Shame I only got to live there for 3 years...

I would be surprised if a business class fare did not earn miles !

I would be surprised if a business class fare did not earn miles !
There are a few earning quirks via DC across a few airlines. For example some of the cheapest fares on LOT earn 0.5x miles, whilst some higher mid-economy groups only earn 0.25x miles. Hardly a problem for a MAN - WAW flight, but like the OP I wouldn't like to risk it on a long haul business flight.

MIA-ORD-HNL Roundtrip in Discounted F ("A" Class) on UA - Approximately $1,600 all-in. Per the great-circle mapper, it's 10,881 miles. x3 That would be 32,643mi. That's 5cpm for a Domestic F fare. Whilst not mistake fare or jaw-dropping quality, that's pretty decent (especially considering it gets you to HNL). Other airlines with better premium products to HNL (AA, CO) appear to match UA out of MIA. However, flying them won't get you x3 mileage on BD.
I picked one up for Thanksgiving (actual routing MIA-ORD-HNL-DEN-SAT) because I needed (err, wanted) to be in HNL that weekend, and would rather spend the weekend in HNL than doing multiple SFO-(LAX/SAN)-ORD-MIA returns in UA F over the Holiday weekend.
Granted, the SFO-MIA option prices out at about 3.8cpm...but it's just not worth it, IMO.
Glad to hear about the Z fares. Thanks for the update, Diamond Club :)

Glad to hear about the Z fares. Thanks for the update, Diamond Club :)From a pure MR perspective, a carefully routed MCO-SFO return on US could generate circa 26K miles for less than $900 but, as you say, it would not involve an HNL weekend.

Very true. However, I'm not much for pure MRs (as I travel purely for leisure, and like to enjoy my chosen destination), and also avoid US like the plague :D

Nah. More miles, less cash, Honolulu. I'd say I'm going to be okay ;)
