Just a quick one. Its been absolute ages since i've flown CX Y but have a couple of short haul trips around Asia coming up to MNL, TPE, XMN etc. I was wondering if CX still serves those horrible sandwiches like ham and cheese, char siu etc. on these short haul routes?

Yes they do, but only outside what they regard as meal times.
So, for example, I think that on MNL-HKG the 06:35 (and perhaps the 08:50) get breakfast, the 11:05 and 12:30 get the (truly appalling, I agree) sandwiches, but the 17:55 and 20:00 get a dinner but with no choice (last night it was chicken adobo & rice on the 20:00).

CX were offering ham and cheese melts as the snack on my recent flight to London. They weren't too bad.

Well i'm going to put in a request for Indian Vegetarian Meals (IVML?) on all these flights, and see what that gets me. Anyhow, it surely can't be worse that those melts.
I agree that the ham and cheese is somewhat edible under dire circumstances, but the Char siu one is absolutely disgusting.

On TPE-HKG, it's a sandwich with some ground meat. At least it seems like it's meat. It barely passes as a culinary experience. I waited until I was on the ground in HKG to eat. Ugh just bad.

Happy to report that an Indian Vegetarian Meal still provided the said sandwich but with an infinitely better filling. Grilled vegetables (eggplant, courgettes and onions) lightly spiced. Much better than the chicken breast with gunk. This was on CX903 HKG-MNL. Tray also included a poppadum w/chutney and fruit, whilst others only got the fruit.
From what I remember:
MNL-HKG
CX904 had a sandwich while CX 918 served dinner
HKG-MNL
cx901 and cx919 served croissants
