Avis charges a $200 One-Way Fee added to the rental for an auto rented in SYD and dropped off in MEL. Does anyone know of a rental company that charges less for One-Way rentals? Rental will be during January.

I did a quick run through the Hertz website and Sydney (downtown) to Melbourne (downtown) runs $201 for 3 days ($54.45 per day plus taxes but no drop-off fee). Airport to airport will cost you an extra 18%. g-day Jul 4, 07, 5:39 pm G-day prspad, If you put your request in to www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au you will see what all the big boys charge for a one way trip. I have found it better than going to their own web sites. Have fun, Ray prspad Jul 4, 07, 8:00 pm G-day prspad, If you put your request in to www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au you will see what all the big boys charge for a one way trip. BiziBB Mar 10, 08, 5:20 pm IN a few minutes last nights, after reading a little on AFF about OzJet, I booked a trip with the Mrs to MEL, from Good Friday and returning Easter Sunday or Monday. Mrs B would like me to hire a car - mainly to drive to the Yarra Valley wineries on Saturday and possibly a bit of the GOR. FYI I'd love to try vroomvroomvroom as prspad mentions above, so how do these rates sound for a short-notice, holiday rental? Alternatively, would you recommend a small bus winery tour, instead? vroomvroomvroom (https://vroomvroomvroom.com.au/book/default.aspx?pickupdate=3/21/2008&pickuptime=13:00:00&dropoffdate=3/24/2008&dropofftime=13:00:00&ddlPickUpLocation=1970&ddlDropOffLocation=1883&age=25&ddlCountry=AU&countryfrom=AU&dosearch=true#results) MEL-MEL 21-24 MAR Indicative $AUD quotes include: Mini (getz 3dr) Budget 213 Eco (getz 3 or 5dr) Budget or Avis 219 Eco (corolla hatch) Hertz 241 - Would these quotes sound about right? Thanks! - Might there be any #1 Gold benefits if booking Hertz with this website? - Given the holiday traffic and the fact we arrive into MEL around 1PM on the Friday, should we leave the idea of GOR and just stick to a day at a few Yarra wineries? - Any suggestions on where to visit? Happy to try to catch up with anyone in the city on Friday night, if anywhere is open. Boraxo Mar 17, 08, 7:01 pm We loved GOR but traffic can be miserable on Saturday if it is a beach day (this was December) and if not then you will just drive farther on the highway. So I wouldn't try to fit too much into that day. We did not hit the wineries here (not enough time) but you certainly could see quite a few on your own. However be very careful of how much you consume - we did see surprise sobriety checkpoints on the GOR where they were measuring BAC. You may be more familiar with those than we are in the states, where they post advance notice of the checkpoints and do field tests rather than breathalyzers. YVR Cockroach Mar 17, 08, 7:16 pm Europcar doesn't appear to charge a OW fee. Europcar.com.au trooper Mar 17, 08, 7:48 pm The three day thing sounds pretty common... I wanted to rent a car ow from ADL-CBR... it was $59 a day for 2 days.. plus $300 drop off IIRC... or 3 days at $59 with no drop off fee... Gee.. I wonder which offer I took..... prspad Mar 17, 08, 11:46 pm I'm in Bangkok as I write this and only have a couple minutes... I rented a one-way Avis Toyota Camry in January via the VroomVroomVroom website... 10 day rental w/pick-up at Sydney Downtown, return to the airport in MEL. The rate was substantially less expensive than renting via the Avis website and I still got my Avis FF benefits! I also rented a 5 day Avis Brisbane rental from VROOM recently w/ pick-up and return at BNE. https://vroomvroomvroom.com.au * |
