American Express Membership Rewards - Upgrade to Platinum for a $100 credit??

Every couple of weeks now I get emailed an offer to upgrade to business platinum and if I do, I will receive a $100 statement credit for making a purchase between Sept 1 '07 & Sept 1 '08. Anyone get this and have any luck asking Amex to give a points bonus instead?

Do all people who have a gold card get offers to upgrade to platinum? I was thinking of getting platinum but now think maybe I'll try getting the gold fee free first year plus 10,000 MR points (the offer I got for gold). Will having gold increase my chances of getting a decent offer for platinum??

I have the blue cash card and they have been offering me 25000 points to get a platinum card. I don't need the benefits and don't like the $450 annual fee, so I'm not biting. FWIW I have been charging $1000 to $3000 per month, mainly paying it off monthly, but also ran a balance for a few months since it was a 0% intro offer.

Nope, it's not a good deal. If they offer you the 25,000 pts., take that. You can use those for an award ticket on an airline---if you can ever find award availability---and get an equivalent airline ticket of at least $250-300.

I got the 25k pt. offer and asked if I could convert it to a $250 statement credit at $.01/pt. The rep. told me that no, if I wanted a credit in lieu of the points, it would only be $100; not worth it.
