oneworld - One flight instead of 2 - switched to AS due to DFW deluge

I picked a doozie of a week to use 4 coupons in my current DONE4 to visit friends in ANC. Going up on Tuesday we were 4½ hours late leaving DFW because of lightning closing the ramp every 10 minutes. My checked bag (full of gifts) got soaked because when they close the ramp they just sort of walk away from the bag carts and let the rain do its thing. But I digress..

Last night I got a call from AA in ANC (AS in disguise) and was told that due to weather at DFW, ANC-DFW was running 5 to infinite hours late and "no promises" could be made that I'd get out of DFW to SEA before the 4th of July crowds hit. Would they mind if they put me on an AS redeye nonstop ANC-SEA rather than AA ANC-DFW-SEA?

Like any mileage geek, I asked about the "lost" miles and told them I was traveling on a (paper ticket) RTW fare, and she said, "Uh-huh. Well I'm sure AA can handle it to your satisfaction."

Since spending X days in DFW would definitely not be to my satisfaction, I agreed. Now the pain starts. Since the tickets were AA stock, it didn't strike the AS/AA people in ANC that anything was funny about it. Obviously they know nothing of the OWE rules.

A couple of years ago I got put on a Nationwide flight in South Africa as part of a OWE ticket when the Comair flight went mechanical, and I eventually got credit for the flight. But that was a case where the routing was the same, just a change of carrier. In this case the routing was different and the carrier was not a OW member. Does anybody have comparable experience in getting credit for "lost" miles resulting from a more efficient non-compliant RTW routing choice? Sounds a little like the current CX/CMB business, but obviously the Tamil Tigers are not the same as biblical rain in Ft. Worth.

The mileage difference is significant and may delay my re-entry to EXPhood by as much as a month if I don't get credit for the missed segments. Any advice welcome.

AA can do whatever they want, including putting you on AS. They will just pull the appropriate coupons and call it a day. In theory, it won't affect your RTW, but just check to ensure that the rest of the segments weren't accidentally altered. After the flight, call AA, ask for AAdvantage customer service, and tell them that you were involuntarily rerouted and that you would like to request the original mileage credit. If the rerouted flights don't post (i.e., you were rerouted on Air France, who is not a partner), they will generally just manually post the segments. If the rerouted flights do post, like they will for you on AS, then they will either modify the flights or more often than not just manually post a random flight that is comparable to the missing miles. In other words, they will let the ANC-SEA post and then probably manually post a SEA-DFW-SEA flight.

Generally requires call to request manual credit. Most airlines are happy to give the credit. If you can put another FFP number against the AS flight (other than AA) then you can also double dip.
